I've had an n70 since the end of last year and I'm on my third charger for it having had identical symptoms to those described by Steve. When I contacted the Nokia press office about what I'd been told was an acknowledged problem, they said they'd not heard of it. They sent me a replacement charger which, up till now is still working. But at twenty-five quid a pop they're not cheap to replace. -----Original Message----- From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Steve Dryden Sent: 31 May 2007 03:20 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Faulty charger, not dead battery Hi Clive, yes, I had a similar problem. The charger was the culprit. I think these new micro pin chargers seem to be rather fragile. The leads seem to be prone to wire breaks. When I discovered the problem, I tried wiggling the wire around at various points on the lead and near the plug end, I found that the phone would bleep to say that it was charging but it would only remain on for a minute or two. I tied the lead behind something one night and got a full charge from it! smiles. I've now got a new E65 which I thought would be a nice little phone for a back up from the N91. I tried to charge it with my phone's charger without result. On impulse I phoned Steve Nutt and he suggested I try an older charger using the N91's adaptor. I did this and heard the beep advising me the battery was charging. I confirmed this with Talks, which will report the battery's status even with the phone switched off. It was fully charged in about four hours. I decided to do the same with the battery I thought was dead and had the same result. The phone is now running using the first battery, so now I have a spare. I have purchased a new charger for the phone so I don't have to keep using the adaptor. My advice is: If your phone is one like the N91 with a smaller pin for the charging plug and the battery isn't charging, try using the adaptor with an older-style charger. It's amazing what you don't think off when you have a problem! Best wishes, Clive Pallett -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
