I think Jackie many people fall into the trap of believing these gadgets are a necessity and therefore, life is unfair if they can't afford them. We survived before TALKS etc. Granted it does make life easier and aid our independence, but that does not make it a necessity.
Not sure who made the argument about a blind couple having to go without assistive products because they have to put the kids and their needs first. Well, isn't that the same with sighted couples? Isn't that just being a parent? Sighted parents have to go without things because of the kids, so why should we be any different?
Like I say, it's falling into the trap of thinking these things are a necessity and therefore a right which causes the problem. I love my TALKS, JAWS, scanner etc and without them would find life difficult. But without them I would not go hungry, I would still have shelter and water and all the other basic necessities of life.

I agree some assistive technology is expensive, and of course I wish it was cheaper, but it isn't, so I have to make a decision whenever I want something whether I need it, whether to save up to buy it, and whether that price can justify the purchase. For many, smoking, alcohol, or drugs, is a way of life they can justify, so you have to make your own judgment about the merits of buying costly gadgetry that helps us in some way. I love the N86's chunky feel, and the buttons are so much more tactile all round than the N82. Often, customers struggle with the Talks/Menu button on the N82, and the soft key positions. Hi Jackie, The processor is faster in the N86 than either phone, the camera is obviously better, and if you have tried KNFB Reader on it, you would see that it is miles faster than the N82. It is a little heavy in my view, but the butoons on it are just as nice as the N82, if not a bit wider. An all-round good phone, and the battery life is even better than the N82 in my experience. The N79 is pretty good, but it doesn't have the 8MP camera which helps KNFB, and KNFB won't let you run it on the N79, I think they are just being paranoid and will have to do something soon, because TextScout is excellent on it.
