I have the N97 Mini and those instructions are very clear and more importantly correct. When I installed Talks for the first time I used Nokia PC Suite. I could see key one and two and I think they are clear and bold enough for low vision users. My phone has a black background and that played a big part in my seeing the key one and two. I just simply installed Talks first and continuesly pressed key one until the install shield appeared.

Hi Eleanor

Just seen your message and assuming you still need some answers ..... Here
goes.....

Based on the N97 which should show the same layouts as the Mini I guess,
whilst you hold the phone in portrait view, i.e. with the phone in your hand vertically and camera and volume keys facing the right and power key facing
upwards, Key1 and Key2 will be in the usual position that you would expect
for most Nokia's, so key1 bottom left and key2 bottom right. On the N97 they
are touch keys so not physical keys but are part of the touchscreen, it's
been a fair while since I held the N97 Mini though so can't be sure if it's
the same as its bigger brother the N97 which I have but I would assume
so..... Or hope someone will confirm if this understanding is not correct.

So to get adapted to the phone use the phone in this layout and it's pretty intuitive, you shouldn't really need the phones manual to be honest although
it's a handy reference guide if you come across something new and your not
too sure of it, I just had a quick look on the Nokia site and you can grab a
PDF of the manual here -

http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/product-support/n97-mini/guides

The reason I say get used to the phone in portrait view is at least on the
N97 Classic anyway, the Key1 and Key2 move positions in landscape so first
get used to it in portrait to get used to the phone, then play further and
you'll see that in landscape Key1 can be bottom left or bottom right
depending on the screen or application your in and obviously if key1 moves
to bottom left then key2 also moves to bottom right but it's pretty easy to get used to which screens this movement happens in as it's not all of them.

For installing Talks, if you've already got the install files on there and
your going to have sighted help then I would suggest the following -

1. go to Menu>settings>application manager>installation settings (note that this is based on the menu of the N97 Classic, not Mini but it should be very
similar) in here change software installation to "All" instead of "signed"
this will ensure Eloquence installs ok.
2. now go to Menu>applications>office>file manager and select the mass
memory and the subsequent folder where you placed the Talks installation
files i.e. Installs folder and just press key1 for options and select open
and it's all as you'd be use to, keep pressing key1 to confirm installation and install to C: Phone Memory etc and repeat same process for Eloquence or
which ever TTS suits you.

Note that you need to make sure you reboot the device after installing Talks and the TTS, this then ensures all functions fully in place into the phones interface when the device boots up (like you would when installing something
new on a PC)

If you don't have sighted help then the installation process is also very
easy, assuming that you already have the phones date and time set, this
method you install Talks first because it is signed and the TTS is not but
Talks will pick up the Nokia TTS so it's enough to get you to be able to use the device and get to the place to change this yourself and without sighted
help, so as follows -

1. connect phone to PC using cable, upon doing so the phone will beep and
ask connection method i.e. PC Suite, Mass storage (also known as Data
transfer on some devices) and so on, providing you haven't previously
connected the device to the pc in a selection other than PC Suite then PC
Suite should be the first choice and already selected so you just press Key1
and all good..... No need for eyes....
2. using PC and PC Suite select Talks 5 to install as you would be used to,
when phone beeps just keep pressing key1 (bottom left in portrait view)
every few seconds and once Talks starts speaking your done
3. then go to Menu>settings>application manager>installation settings, in
here change software installation to "All" instead of "signed" this will
ensure Eloquence installs ok as this is not signed like Talks is hence
installing Talks first.
4. once done then back out to homescreen using key2, and use PC Suite to
select the Eloquence TTS on your PC and install the Eloquence TTS, this time
you will have Talks speech guidance using the Nokia TTS
5. reboot phone to ensure Talks fully implemented into the device correctly,
then change TTS from the horrible Nokia one to the Eloquence one, you can
either go into Talks menu to do this, or use the Talks key (menu key) plus a long slide and hold of the keylock switch on the side to activate switching between TTS engines that are installed (on 5th Ed devices the keylock slide
switch doubles as the Talks and Clear key function of mute and TTS switch)

Let me know if these instructions are too vague as I did write them a little
quickly so may be too brief..... But hope it is of some help

Cheers

Pete

Subject: Assistance with installing Talks to N 97 Mini

Hi
I want to ask a sighted person to install Talks on to N 97 mini this
afternoon. I have put Talks and Eloquence on the mass memory in the installs
folder. How can I instruct her what to do next please? I then want to know
something about the N 97 Mini so I can start trying to use Talks on it. For
example where are soft keys? If I go in to a menu how do I exit out of it
again? Guess this is why I need to know where to find soft key 2 etc. Do I
need a mamual and if so where would I get one on-line? Can I register for 10
days of Talks as I have never used a trial. Guess I cannot get a 30 day
trial until after Easter. Any help on or off list would be greatly
appreciated. Many thanks.
Eleanor
