Hi Saqib.

OK, I'm going to say without hesitation to do the double transfer. To switch from IMEI to sim based licensing, your looking at an up front cost of £125, and as you rightly say you can only use talks on the handset with the registered sim. If you do the double transfer, your making two payments of £50, however you need to transfer from different handsets. For example, the last handset you've used to buy a talks license for use on will be the initial handset you use for the transfer to one of the new handsets you own, then you need to use the new handset as a transfer point for the other handset you have. Sorry if this sounds a little confusing *smile*. As an aside, there's no need to be confused, just feel free to hit the list back with any questions and either Steve, myself or one of our community will answer, that's what we're here for.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Ibrahim. The reason I asked is because I have two phones which are waiting to be licensed. I can do a double transfer or just upgrade to sim license. If I upgrade to sim license then I can only use one phone at a time. As Wayfinder Is not supported on the N97 Mini I'm having to take my E72 out as well for the Navogation. I haven't rooled out MS4 yet and I'm just totally confused with the whole situation.

Hi Saqib.

Indeed, I totally agree with you regards the code factory phone number based licensing method. If Three have to replace my sim for example as part of a network maintenance or upgrade program, at least with the same phone number you have your licenses safe no matter what the sim serial number is. To answer your question, if your sim is lost or stolen, you have to buy a new license for the sim you receive as a replacement, currently £75 I believe. There may be exceptions to this, but I've never heard it said that you can get a new license because your network has replaced your sim, so be extremely careful if you want to go down this route.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi. what would happen if you had lost your sim? Would you have to buy another full license of Talks. I've always thought about switching from emei to sim but the issue of possiblily losing your sim or having one replaced has put me off. I think they should of adapted the Codefactory rout and assigned the license to the phone number. That way you can change networks and replace your sim.

Hi Eleanor.

OK, lets clarify things for your friend. When you buy talks, you have two licensing models to choose from and two voices that you can buy. The licensing models are IMEI and SIM based licensing and each has their pros and cons. With IMEI licensing, Talks is locked to the device it is registered on. If you change sim cards on the device or don't even use one, you'll be fine, however if the device is lost, stolen or damaged, you need to get a replacement license for the device you receive from say the insurance or that you buy yourself. Sim based licensing ties the license of talks to the exact sim card that you are using. This means that you can transfer the sim from handset to handset, however talks will only work in fully paid mode when the sim is inserted. If you have two phones, phone A and phone B, Phone A will only work with the sim card installed in it, where as if you move the sim to phone B, phone A will stop working with talks after 10 minutes.

Now on to the voices. Most people buy the eloquence voice with talks, however you can buy RealSpeak for an additional fee. Similarly, you can buy RealSpeak at the point of purchase, however Eloquence will need to be purchased separately. Your friend needs to know firstly what licensing method they are using with talks, plus the licensed voices they are authorized to use. Once we know that information, it will be a lot easier to troubleshoot your friend's problem.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Right thanks Steve I am totally confused now. You are saying he has to pay more for Eloquence. Is this that he has a SIM Talks? I have no recollection of paying for Eloquence when I purchased Talks. Thought it was part of the software and apologise to everyone for my lack of knowledge and my wrong suggestion to him.

Hi Eleanor,

The message say when he registered it, Eloquence stopped working. There is only one reason for this. You are licenced for Realspeak or Vocaliser, and not Eloquence.

If you want the Eloquence licence added on, the cost is 35 pounds.

All the best

Steve

Is it a valid lisence? Maybe you need to register it. This can be done by going in to talks and then Options and arrow down to Registeration. You need to ensure you have a sym inserted in the phone. Maybe you have the Nokia voice and want to have Eloquence voice. You must ensure that eloquence has been installed also. You then choose it from the selection of voices. Finally if the problem is none of these was Talks on the phone before. It might be that you need to press the Options key once you are in Talks and arrow to Enable Talks. If you have done all these things maybe you can give more information. did Talks stop speaking after you hit a few keys so that you might have accidentally muted Talks. If this is the case press the zero and the clear or delete key to unmute Talks. Otherwise we may need more information. I am sure other people will answer you also.
