I personally prefer to disable active standby and just have the five keys set as shortcuts.

Hi Eleanor.

When you disable the active standby screen, you lose the desktop style interface, instead, each of the four arrow keys, the select key and left and right soft keys can be programmed to launch specific things. For instance, if I tap the up arrow key on my phone at the main screen, the messages application launches, and if I tap the left arrow, the music player loads up. Of course you can choose exactly what key does which function. The E series phones have the added advantage of the four buttons either side of the selection arrows, they are from left to right, menu, calendar, contacts and email. As for my email, I use a push email service provided by my network. You install special client software which interfaces with their servers and handles the reception and delivery of emails.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I thought you used the e71 Ibrahim. If it is the e71 you are talking about can you give me a little more info (off list if necessary) about the one touch, I would like to use those keys as they are there but do not understand about setting them up. When you talk about getting e-mail alerts, are you on-line all the time then? I just then to go on-line periodically and check for my e-mails.

Hi Amro.

In point of fact, I've just disabled active standby, I'm using the classic mode with one touch access to my favourite applications and functions, plus I get alerts when email and text message come in, something that I'd have to mess about configuring with the active standby function.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi Paul, turn active standby screen off to get the alerts in the old way as at ware. But I'd say try customising your phone as Ibrahim suggested first. Having the standby screen on is a lot better IMHO. In any case pressing the talks key with key two tells you if you have any unread messages or missed calls.

HTH,
Amro

Hi Paul.

Are you using the active standby screen? If so, you'll need to check that the various notifies are switched on such as the new message notified, email alert etc. You should find active standby settings in the tools, settings, general and personalisation options.

All the best, Ibrahim.

HI all,

Please could someone tell me how I can get my E51 to alert me to the fact
that new mesages have arived.

my 660 used to do this with mesages and also missed calls but the E51
doesn't seem to do this automatically.

Regards

Paul.
