Hi Paul, turn active standby screen off to get the alerts in the old way
as at ware. But I'd say try customising your phone as Ibrahim suggested
first. Having the standby screen on is a lot better IMHO. In any case
pressing the talks key with key two tells you if you have any unread
messages or missed calls.

Are you using the active standby screen? If so, you'll need to check
that the various notifies are switched on such as the new message
notified, email alert etc. You should find active standby settings in
the tools, settings, general and personalisation options.

doesn't seem to do this automatically.
