Hi what is the maximum for the E71? I have a 8GB card in there at the moment.

Mat,

From my understanding the manufacturers have already agreed the format for
the cards before they
exist, thus people like Nokia can build future proof devices.

That is how the N97 which came out within weeks of the N86 can both support
32Gb cards.

Hi, where did you see that? I read that the format of the 32 GB cards is
completely new and readers will have to be constructed to take advantage of it. In other words they aren't backwards compatible. New card readers will be able to read older format cards, but older readers won't be able to read
the new multi-layer format cards.

As far as I understand it, the N86 was rolled out too early for the card
reader to be the right type for the next gen memory cards.

Hi Matt,

At the moment it only supports 16GB, but when 32GB MicroSD cards come out,
it will support them.

All the best

Thing is Neil, I did like the build quality of the N86, but as I doubt
I'll
ever be able to afford the KNFB Reader software, the 8 MP camera is
pointless. I'm more likely to appreciate a huge memory because of all the
audio files I'm always carrying around with me. If the N86 had the N97's
memory I'd jump at it! But as far as I know it only supports a 16 GB
memory
card, so I wouldn't even be able to expand the memory with the new 32 GB
cards coming out now!

Very disappointed with the 8 GB internal memory considering the huge 8 MP
camera they've put on it. I'd have expected a decent size memory because
pics and vids take up much more room than audio.

Mat,

You are right, the strip I referred to is on the E75 and not the N97.

The build quality on the N97 is very good, but no less or more though
than
the N86.

Re iPhone, I think is is a general acceptance that for sighted blind
folk,
that are able to see the screen to an extent, are able to use it far more
so
than totals.

Re cost saving, that is a relative term, on O2 the iPhone is in excess of £450 or so, yet on contract with O2 you can get an N86 for £50, and Talks
full license for £150. This puts the Nokia and Talks combo £250
cheaper...

Just a thought for you, and of course if the new phone was your second or
beyond Talks phone then the saving is even more.

Hi Neil, the build quality is amazing, the memory is unbelievable, I
thought

the keypad was nice but I think the strange metal strip you're referring
to
is actually on the new E75 not the N97. I looked at both phones and hated
that too.

I have heard that the N86 actually has a built in screen reader though?
that

might be interesting...

(Next paragraph refers to IPhone for those of you who don't want to read
anything other than Talks and Nokia stuff):

To be honest, I personally would jump the Nokia ship and switch to IPhone 3GS immediately if they'd only sort the battery life and Bluetooth issues
out, that phone is really amazing! I love the accessibility features
they've

built in, especially as I do have some small amount of vision so a
combination of the speech and the amazingly bright clear screen on the
IPhone means its pretty accessible for me. I can for instance, see each
icon

on the home screen, enough to position my finger accurately on the third
from the left for example. So the speech would help me learn that the
third
from the left is calendar say, then as I got better I'd just
automatically
tap the third from the left, using my eyes to locate its general position
and the speech to confirm I've tapped the right one.

I believe the N97's screen is using the same screen technology as IPhone
so
the display can be set up to look as bright and clear which would benefit
me

no end!

Standing in carphone Warehouse the other day, I went from never holding
an
IPhone before to sending a text message using the touch screen in less
than
5 minutes! And all that accessibility is built in and ready to go at no
extra cost! It also gets upgraded every time there's a software update,
also

at no extra cost!

Now I'm certainly not a Mac computer user and think Jaws and Windows
offers
us the very best solution, but I really think the IPhone may be to
handheld
coms devices what Windows on a PC is to computing.

Hi Eleanor,

No, it is a slide phone with a standard keypad with nice buttons.
QWERTY
is
awful in my view and I wouldn't touch it on phones.

All the best

Hi Steve

So you've got the N86? What do you love about it, and how do you think
it compares to the N82 and N79? Really interested in what you have to
say.

Hi, is there any more news about N97 and Talks? I'm getting to a point
where

I really have to make a decision, N86 or N97! I don't want to be
lumbered with an N97 if speech is months and months away if it comes at all, but of the 2 handsets it has the feature set I'm looking for! Apart from the 8 MP camera the N86 doesn't look a whole lot more powerful than
the N82 in reality, whereas the N97 is massivo!

Matt
