NOTICE TO ALL PROPERTY OWNERS AND TAXPAYERS OF LEON COUNTY PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Special Magistrates appointed by the Leon County Value Adjustment Board, in compliance with Fla. Stat. § 196.194, will conduct hearings in the Leon County Courthouse at 301 South Monroe Street in Tallahassee, Florida, on October 15, 2010, from October 18, 2010 through October 22, and from October 25 through October 29, 2010 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day to hear (1) complaints against denials of homestead exemptions by the Property Appraiser, (2) objections to the valuation placed on real estate and tangible personal property and (3) disputed or appealed applications for exemptions from ad valorem taxation. Prior to conducting these hearings, the magistrates will attend an orientation session presented by VAB counsel on October 14, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Clerk's Conference Room at the Leon County Courthouse. Separate lists of applicants for exemptions that have been wholly or partially approved by the Property Appraiser, and of applicants for exemptions that have been denied by the Property Appraiser, are maintained for public viewing in the Leon County Property Appraiser's Office, 315 S. Calhoun Street, 3rd Floor, Tallahassee, Florida, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The lists include applications for the following exemptions: * Homestead-all categories; * Certain permanently and totally disabled veterans; * Disabled veterans confined to wheelchairs; * Permanently and totally disabled persons; * Renewable energy sources; * Charitable, religious, scientific or literary uses and additional exemptions relating thereto; * Educational property; * Property owned and used by labor organizations; * Certain agreement with local governments for use of public property; * Economic development; * Not-for-Profit sewer and water company property; * Widows, blind persons and persons totally and permanently disabled; * Tangible personal property; and * Agricultural property. Any taxpayer may bring an action to contest a tax assessment pursuant to Fla. Stat. § 194.171.
