I don't know about Silas pc; it wouldn't hurt.

he says in the docs somewhere you have a choice in sound setup between
direct and windows; he implies there's a bug in the "windows" choice, and
you should choose "direct" for now; maybe that will help.

Whal, that is a nasty one. I wonder if that will help the situation with
Sila's computer. When I get to the sound setup Her computers gives a error message and closes the setup wizard. It happened in the original setup and
also when trying to run the wizard after installation.

Hi Robert,

I've been in contact with the author, and he doesn't know what causing
this
error. it's happening whenever you change some setting, and this setting
is
used during the creation of a channel.

to solve the problem I had to go to the user profile application data
dirs,
and find the xml file used by TeamTalk, delete it, and have it start over
with my configuration. you can go to this area by opening the run dialog
and entering in this location as the command:

%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\BearWare.dk

I was going to publish the .tt file soon (great minds think alike), and
also
put it up on the TABI web site. unfortunately, the TABI channel cannot be
made to stay around permanently; it must be created when we need it, and
so
the .tt file cannot be used unless you know for certain someone has
created
the TABI channel (because there's some scheduled conference); and then,
you
can't show up too early or the channel won't be there. I was going to
explain this when I published the .tt file on TABI.

thanks.

Chip

Hi Chip,

I was reading the manual to-day and like the ability to create the .tt
files
for users to join a channel. When I went to create a channel for tabi as
a
general topic, I could fill out all the info but when I chose okay, I got
an
error message saying I must inter a positive integer okay. I looked all
over the screen and couldn't determine where to inter what TT wanted. Any
ideas. If I can get past this, I think I can create the .tt file that
people can use to make a direct connection.

thanks Sila.

I hope you're right about the popularity, but if we're sure there are no
people who'd want to be in both groups, well then there's no problem; you
just create another channel for the second group. our only problem is
making sure no one is being left out if group schedules overlap.

Excellent info and ideas. I heard you, Lynn and Robert the other night
and
it was crystel clear. Also, sounds like this might be a great option for
tech dummies like me. Hopefully this will be so popular that we'll have
to
coordinate times for different groups to use it!
Thanks again, Sila

I'm hoping that we can schedule regular voice conferences using this
TeamTalk software. these might be just for saying hello to one another
once a week, or I hope, demoing software or other items we'd like the
group to know more about, and/or teaching classes or little seminars on
any topic at all. It's meant just for the users of the TABI list, but
there's no reason to restrict what we discuss in the voice conference,
as there is on the list. the same rule of no personal attacks still
holds however.

Just as examples:

Robert and Liz get to see a lot of new assistive technology products.
I'd really appreciate it if every time they did, if they would get on
the voice conference and spend just a couple minutes telling us about
the product; if they have it in hand, even better as we can then ask
them to do various things with it so we can get an idea how easy it is
to use, and how it sounds.

I'd like to offer some vista classes; say 15 minutes (or more if people
are into it), on some aspect of vista (which would apply equally to
windows 7), to help people get the most out of their new computers.

I'd like to demo what can be done with the free voice recognition, not
just dictation, but complete hands-free control of the computer (and now
there's a bluetooth headset which is high quality, and you can use it
for hands free control of your computer, with a voice synthesizer, so
that you can be walking around your house even).

maybe there's enough interest to have a personal finances group meeting
every so often; to talk on any subject from dealing with creditcard
debt, to forms of investment, to tax laws which benefit the blind.

And I don't mean to say I have to be the organizer or presenter or even
attend all of the conferences. anyone can create a group for whatever
purpose, announce it's meeting here on TABI, and do their own thing.
I'd just like to see us doing something together. something to cement
friendships, or repair friendships, or just benefit us in some way we
weren't even expecting.

so, the floor is open for ideas as to how to make use of this wonderful
new tool we have; but I'm asking once again that people give it a try.
I know most people own a microphone, and those that don't, Lynn said
headsets are available from Radio Shack for as little as $10. and since
we're not doing speech recognition, you can use your bluetooth wireless
headset if you'd like to move around. but I know there are a lot of
people who have the ability to use this, who haven't tried coming to one
of our trial sessions yet.

speak up when you're ready, and we'll hold another meeting to let you
try it out.

thanks.

Chip

Ok, haven't really been following this thread. What is this and what
programs or how would you use this on a every day basics or
is this just
something new for the email list?

oh, and for people without a microphone, you can listen, and
type in your
questions or comments, since it has a text message box which
goes out to
everyone as well.

Yes, the hands-free is a good point, as you can be doing
something else on
your computer, switching to your email or whatever, and keep right on
chatting. if you have a bluetooth headset, you can walk
around the room and
chat.

I think Robert had just setup a desk microphone, and so he
could sit back
and chat, because he was either wearing headphones, or had
his speakers down
low.

but, there's no pushing a control button to talk, so all of
us could hear
everyone at once.

Chip

Well Robert, Skip and I just got done a few minutes ago using
the Team Talk
client. I was amazed at how clear each of us sounded.
Robert's deep voice
came through like he was in the same room as I was. I am glad
we didn't have
video so I didn't have to look at hem. smile

I did a bit of fumble ling around until I found the channel
Chip had set up
for us. I tend to do things the hard way. Chip said he could
set things up
so when the Team Talk client is opened the user would go
right where the
user is supposed to go. That would be fine with me. Just
point me in the
direction I am to go.

We could even hear Sila in the background.

This is cool and so easy to set up and use. We just need more
than three
people to join our team. I know you guys love to talk and it
is hands free!
