Hello All,In playing catch up, I came across Chip's message. Back in the fall I applied for a job with the Department of Revenue. As many of you know, I already work for them so already have some Child Support Enforcement knowledge. Any way, I was granted something called a Skills Verification Test (SVT.) I was allowed to take the test in my office using my WindowEyes screen reader and CCTV. I passed and then was granted an interview. During the interview I had to give a Power Point presentation. That was scary but I tell you, I wouldn't give any thing for my braille skills. I made notes regarding the key points and was able to maintain eye contact or at least look directly at my audience. Any way, to make a long story short, at the end of October I received a promotion. DOR has always been above and beyond for me but, I know of two others with a visual disability who have applied for jobs in their call center with not much success so it's a mixed bag. I am fortunate to have some sight and I do advocate. However, there's a fine line between too much and not enough. Thanks for letting me share. Hope all have a great 2010! We think it would give all of us locally a little boost in our confidenceand morale, and also give us the name of an employer who has shown they'rewilling to give someone who is blind a chance. so please, if you get any job-related good news, please share it witheveryone here on TABI. if you know of someone else who gets the good news, and they aren't on TABI, please ask them if it's ok for you to pass along their news. thanks.
