Dear Mimi,

I don't know why more of those pedestrian overpasses aren't used either; cost
is probably a large part of it.

How do you know this has all been through channels? Not being a smart aleck
here; I really want to know. <smile>

If you extend the benefit of having access to the" gates of Thomasville and
kerry forest par via an overhead passage would increase productivity for all
concerned. At the VA blind rehab in Birmingham, that was a big part of
mobility safety, Maybe the army corps of engineers could do it, brought up to
the right channels. I know that the former mayor of Salinas, CA had huge
successes for his community with these type of army supported effort.

Thus just a suggestion which has already wormed its way throu the mill and
been crushed. but it goes against all sensibilities and logic to cross those
passages unassisted by dog, cane and sighted guide.

  Dear Charles,

I have, on occasion, held out my cane even while traveling with my dog at
nasty intersections, and I do wish, sometimes, the speeds on some roadways
would be decreased. I believe the speed limit on Meridian Road is 40 mph; many
are going, at least ten miles, above the speed limit, so I don't usually feel
comfortable crossing in the middle of the block to the other side which has
dome sidewalks, but they aren't all that great either.

    So right Darla!

It would be better than waiting all day for some one to help one to cross!

Make that stick just a little bit more obvious when crossing!

Thanks, Sila; the worst intersection I have encountered is the one we
used to cross walking from where we lived to outback. I could never get a good
read on that traffic there.

I wouldn't cross that intersection at Kerry Forest and Thomasville
without some training, and I fervently hope an audible pedestrian signal will
be in place there soon.

As Sila points out, it isn't only the construction of an intersection but
how much traffic there is (making a lot of noise) and the fact that some of
these streets are very fast, so if one does make a mistake, and the motorist is
inattentive, the chances of being struck are amplified.

      Darla

        Hi Darla and All,

Basically, this is a huge, 4-way intersection with quite fast moving
traffic. It does have some egress lanes and luckily, sidewalks along both sides
of thomasville at least (not sure about Kerry Forest). It has a minimum of 4
lanes for the Kerry Forest portion and I'd guess probably 6 or so for
Thomasville Road. The real need for audible ped signals at intersections such
as this, as I see it is that it is so large and noisy that one can't accurately
read the traffic to make a good safe judgment about when it is time to cross
without a little help. Not sure that you'd want to cross it without some
assistance or prior training. Hope this helps. Take care, Sila

Wow, Chip I haven't attempted to cross there; might try it if we're
out that way this weekend.

Can you give me a verbal description of its shape and number of
lanes, etc.?

I don't know Darla if others will be happy or not for the audible

I am so proud TCB is listed in the Nova 2010 plan as serious
contributors to make the routes and stops accessible.

Good going to William, Sally and others who have been so thorough
in putting forth our suggestions and ideas; thanks to the Lighthouse as well.

I am sure others in your area, Mimi, will be happy for that audible
signal, too.

Hi there atlas, it would improve living conditions to have a
audible signal to go across Thomasville rd at Kerry

forest parkway to go into Walmart and then make the return
trip with audible signal to cross back over thonmasville going east over to
kerryforest

/It would require 4 audible signals.

Also a bus stop needs to be located at each roundabouts in kill
earn estates. Currently I walk two and a half miles to kerry park and
Thomasville to take the bus to target. The return bus could stop on
Thomasville at kerry forest to discharge passengers to an audible signal to
cross over,

Need to make some type of transportation on an as-needed basis.

                Oh well.

                HI William.

Does this group deal with all transportation in Leon county or
just the fixed route system?

In either case first of all we need night service which we
haven't had for about 2 and a half years and there is no transportation to the
airport on weekends. If your inquiry deals with the non sponsored service then
I have a lot to say and recommendations for fixing the problems. At worse we
should be able to have what we had prior to prioritization of non sponsored
trips by the TD board.

                  Greetings list,

As you all know I am very committed to having as good a
transportation system in Tallahassee as possible. At a recent meeting I was
asked to get input from my fellow disable listers: what would be the
suggestions you might have for an effective transportation system? This is
just one more opportunity to make your voice heard.

What is the Accessible Transportation Coalitions Initiative
(ATCI)?

ATCI is a one-year process designed to support systems change
activities to improve accessible transportation options for people with
disabilities

We can have a voice and it has been proven in the past that
they do listen to us.

I invite you to offer your suggestions and I will carry them
to the table.
