That is so true I remember that too.

The late Bishop Joe O Patterson told a story long ago, when i was a small
child. about the show down, between Elijah, and the 450 false prophets of
baal. He shared with us how Elijah, stood, and told the false prophets to go
on ahead, and call their god first. Because they had a much larger program.
He talked about how they had 450 participants to introduce. Elijah was so
sure of YHWH, he with confidence said, that he only had one. Elijah also
reminded them, that they had to drag their fake god up the mountain side on
an ox cart. Elijah also announced to the world, that his Elohim would be
there when he arrived. He said mockingly, you go on ahead. Heck, I will
even let you have prime time. I'M going to take a nap, and when you guys
finish your foolishness, wake me up. Go ahead now, take your best shot.

I have to agree with Laurie.

back when parking in a handicapped parking place was only a $10 fine, and
rarely enforced, you could never see an empty handicapped parking place.
everyone ignored the law.

when it went up to a $250 fine, which was vigorously enforced, you saw
plenty of them.

this is the kind of change we need (which includes a State Attorney (I think
that's Mr. Meggs' title) who believes in enforcing the laws which pertain to
driving responsibly.

I think we could use tougher laws, and more enforcement, and we would
eventually see the kind of change in pedestrian safety analogous to seeing
lots of empty handicapped parking spaces. However, right now, the public
isn't really interested in pedestrian anything. Oh maybe it's gone up
somewhat because of the global warming associated push for alternate
transportation, but no one is really interested yet in making pedestrians
safer, and taking drivers off of the road who can't drive. If they were,
we'd have eye tests, and road tests, for drivers when they reached a certain
age. It's unbelievable to me that we have the highest percentage of elderly
in the nation, and we do almost nothing to detect when they are no longer
able to drive safely, mostly because we don't want to deal with the problems
that would cause when they can no longer drive.

This is true, but we also have to understand that these days. That people
don't [pay attention to anything, or anybody. We want the law to take care
of the problem, but the long and short of the matter is it aint going to
happen. We just have to do the best we can, with what we have right now. We
can't always look to the law to put an end to wrong doing. Sometimes we
ourselves have to take care of it.

Robert,

I realize that the law regards driving as a privilege, but most of the
drivers out there regard it as a right and are not at all concerned with
those of us who have to walk. Maybe the law should do more to make it clear
to them that it is a privilege.
