It will have a dishwasher with a water heater, flat-top stove with an oven hood and a refrigerator. (A BIG THANK YOU to Evelyn Sewell for buying our new refrigerator with an ice maker, and the Davidson's for donating an awesome sink!) If you'd like to assist with the other appliances ($1,800) we already had to purchase, we would be most grateful. Wish list - dining room table and eight matching dining room chairs (approximately $2,000) Playground: Now that we will have a small back yard, we'd love for the kids to have fun using it to learn additional mobility skills & for physical fitness. Wish list: sturdy outdoor climbing play equipment, a covered sandbox, a picnic table (total approximately $2,000) Community Technology Stations: We've always wanted a place for anyone who is visually impaired to be able to drop by and use the special technology that folks may not have at home to read mail, hunt for jobs, or even just connect & network with others... and now we will have space for it! Wish list: 2 desks and desk chairs, 3 cubical walls, one computer with access technology and printer, one CCTV to magnify documents for reading (total approximately $5,000) Classroom “A” for Adults: This classroom will be used for our Independent Living Program classes, and will utilize the old furniture we have in our current classroom. Wish list: 6 ft folding child-size tables, 8 stack-able children's chairs, a plastic playhouse with doors that open and shut on a colorful carpet (total approximately $2,500) Computer Assistive Technology Lab: While we already have a small lab in our old building, this new lab will make it pale in comparison! Twice as big with a half-door between the AT instructor's office and the Lab classroom, it will be an amazing improvement. (A BIG THANKS to DBS for our $40,000 Stimulus Assistive Technology Grant coming this year that will be helping us update much of our equipment, plus get many new items for clients that we've never had!) Wish list: 5 new computer towers with a ton of memory (approximately $2,500.) Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Conference Room: We can hardly imagine holding a Career Workshop or practice interviews in a room that is not a kitchen, but it is becoming a reality! Wish list: 14 ft. conference table & 15 matching chairs (approximately $7,000). Listening Library: Instead of just waiting for a ride or a lesson, now we will have a listening library for educational DVDs/videos, books, newsline, music, you name it! (A BIG THANKS to Tallahassee Council of the Blind who is sponsoring the furniture in this room.) Wish list: large flat screen TV (approximately $1,000). Low Vision Lab: In one of the larger offices we are going to line two of the walls with tables and have a huge variety of lighting, magnifiers and CCTV’s for demonstration purposes, with storage for more above the displays. (Thanks to Easy Talk, Florida Reading & Vision, Freedom Scientific, and Mike Hage for letting us barrow fancy equipment to keep there!) Wish List: Two sturdy black 24” wide X 8 ft long folding tables, two sets of 6 ft sturdy wall shelving to go above tables (approximately $1,000) Porch: With some many folks waiting for Dial-A-Ride, we'd love to have a place for folks to sit outdoors, with another fountain as an auditory landmark. Wish list: two matching park benches, fountain (approximately $800) Production Room: Ever wonder how someone who is blind views a map, or how Braille is made? Well now the Lighthouse will have a specialized room just for producing Braille and tactile graphics such as a map of a college campus. (A BIG THANKS to the Davidson's who donated lots of cabinets to use as workspace and storage for materials!) Wish list: a countertop for cabinets, and bookshelves to hold embossed materials (total approximately $1,500). Office “Guest” Chairs: Because in our current building there are no private offices or space for clients to talk confidentially with their Specialist, we have no place for them to sit! Wish list: 20 matching, padded chairs (approximately $50 each x 20 = $1,000) Thank you again to everyone who has helped – and a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that will be helping us move in the near future! We will continue to keep you posted.
