Your Help!

The Lighthouse of the Big Bend invites YOU to nominate someone for The
"Paula Bailey Inspirational Community Member" award.

The "Paula Bailey Inspirational Community Member" award is presented in
honor of Paula Bailey, former Lighthouse of the Big Bend client and board
member, who became deaf and blind due to meningitis. The Award is to honor
someone you find inspirational, who is blind or visually-impaired, and has
similarly overcome obstacles.

The nominees will be recognized during the 13th Annual Paula Bailey Dining
in the Dark event October 15, 2017. Nomination forms must be received by the
Lighthouse of the Big Bend before September 28, 2017.

Here is How to Make Your Nomination

1. Make Sure Your Nominee Qualifies:

*       They must be visually-impaired or blind (from birth or later in
life); AND,
*       They must be a resident of one of the 11 counties the Lighthouse of
the Big Bend serves: Franklin, Gadsden, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette,
Leon, Liberty, Madison,  Suwannee, Taylor or Wakulla; AND,
*       They must be an individual who has not won the award in the past 10
years. (The nine past winners include Owen McCaul, Norine Labitzke, Michael
Elliot, William Benjamin, Barbara Kiger, Delores Wussler, Dexter "Chip"
Orange, Paloma Rabana, and Donald Christie.)

(Supplemental materials are not required but may include a current resume
and information from the past two calendar years such as published articles
or letters of recommendation.)

4. Submit Your Nomination:

*       Please email your nomination by Thursday, SEPTEMBER 28, 2017, to

How Will a Winner be Decided

A four-member Lighthouse of the Big Bend Dining in the Dark selection
committee will rank each candidate on a scale from one-to-10 as to how
inspirational they have been to the community in terms of coping with their
vision loss (10 points), regaining or maintaining their independence (10
points), and invoking positive emotion and actions in others (10 points).
Each selection committee member score will be added together and the
candidate with the highest score will win the award.
