The Lighthouse of the Big Bend has two positions re-opened:
1. Transition Specialist: Full-time position needed to provide
instruction to high school students who are blind and visually
impaired throughout our 11 county
service area. Curriculum includes personal and home management,
communication, social services, adaptive travel skills, recreation/leisure
and vocational skills. The primary goal of this position is to provide the
highest quality instructional services possible to assist teens who are
blind or visually impaired with "transitioning" to independence after high
school, whether to a job or college. Salary $30-35K based on experience,
with excellent benefits including paid leave, health & life insurance, and a
retirement plan.
2. Independent Living Specialist: Part-time instructor needed 20
hours/week to provide instructional services to people who are blind
or visually impaired in the
Big Bend, primarily age 55 or older. Curriculum includes but is not limited
to the following: independent living, personal and home management,
communication, indoor orientation and mobility (pre-cane skills), social
services, and recreation/leisure skills. $14-$18 per hour depending upon
experience.
