---------- Forwarded message ---------- City of Tallahassee News Release City Names New Director for StarMetro April 24, 2013 This week, the City of Tallahassee named Ivan Maldonado as the new director for StarMetro. In this position, Maldonado will oversee all activities of the transit department and will report directly to Jay Townsend, Assistant City Manager for Development and Transportation Services. Since early January, Maldonado has served as the interim director for StarMetro. Prior to that, Maldonado served as the department's Superintendent of Paratransit for three years, overseeing all Dial-A-Ride and Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) programs. Under Maldonado's leadership, StarMetro's paratransit division won the coveted Urban Community Transportation Coordinator of the Year award in 2012. Prior to coming to Tallahassee, Maldonado served as the Transit Operations Manager for Polk County Transit and Winter Haven Area Transit. Maldonado holds a master's degree in Business Administration and is a Certified Public Manager, Certified Transit Trainer and Certified Transit Supervisor. Maldonado was one of only 12 Florida Transit Mangers accepted in the first ever Certified Transit Manger program through the Center for Urban Transportation and Research at the University of South Florida. Completion of this certification program is expected early next year. Combined, Maldonado has over 20 years of management and supervisory experience, nine of which has been in public transportation. Maldonado also has an extensive background in human services, having served as the Division Director of the Osceola County Council of Aging where he managed services provided to over 40,000 citizens. Currently, Maldonado serves as a member of the Florida Department of Transportation Safe Mobility for Life Coalition and previously served as a member of the Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged Quality Improvement team.
