Robert,

I'm glad to here StarMetro has altered the route to better serve the 300 residents of the apartment complex behind Publix... and you. And I am pleased that StarMetro's communications are (finally) clear enough to be useful.

I especially appreciate your suggestion that the turn-by-turn descriptions:
BEGIN at a specific location or intersection
AND
INDICATE BOTH the compass direction and left/right direction of turns

For those of you who perused even a portion of the lengthy route descriptions I compiled over a month ago-- and SENT TO Starmetro as an example of how directions should be given-- you will know that I included these components, AS WELL as the points of intersection with other bus routes.

ALSO, points of interest-- shopping centers, stores, schools, public facilities, landmarks (such as Lake Ella)-- need to be listed.
So... do you still think they are listening???
Erica

This is pretty shallow thinking, Yes people rent cars or use cabs,
can
you guess why, there is no bus. What other choice do they have.

Also I guess going to the listening session didn't do any good. I
ask
them to make the loop on village square behind Publix to no avail.
It
seems like they would listen to my request since going behind Publix
would
be the side where cypress point apartments are located and the
complex has
300 units.

I say considering the facts we have so far and the unwillingness of
Star
Metro to listen to what the tax payers want that we stand against the
Nova210 plan and start writing to city commissioners now to try and
kill
the beast.

at the first meeting I went to the airport question was brought up.
It
was broken down into three groups

students come and go at the beginning and end of school terms. It is
hard
to schedule buses around this.
Business travelers use their own transportation either rent a car or
cab.
The same thing for tourist.
Busses need to be on a regular schedule each hour. Plains need to
match
the bus schedule or vice versa.

They also don't go to the airport which is a city property and
could
have the potential for more riders.

That would be counter productive. They should go to all major
places
like
the civic center Tallahassee museum , the malls and libraries and
such.

Thanks,

I would hope businesses world scream bloody murder also. I know the
Tallahassee Museum will no longer receive bus service under the
new
plan.

you know, receivership means only that it will continue to
operate;
that's not a valid reason for refusing to serve it.

Robert & others,
Erica here. I passed this info to Sila. I got if from Owen, who
obtained it from StarMetro directly.
And, yes, seniors, disabled, and school-age children all pay
60 cents.
I'm pretty sure-- but not positive-- that when a discounted fare
is
deposited, the driver has to push a key-- presumably one of
these 3
categories-- to have the fare box accept it as a valid fare.
These figures and percentages are from 2008.
Interestingly, also from 2008, 29,979 people boarded at
Governor's
Square Mall; that's over 85 people per day. There were about
25,000
people boarding at Tallahassee Mall. There still seems to be no
concession from StarMetro on going into the malls. The argument
for
Tallahassee Mall, of course, is that since it is already in
recievership (close to being bankrupt), why bother? This is NOT,
however, a valid argument, of course, for Governor's Square.
Another tidbit: In 2008, the malls were the only 2 stops
among the top
20 (most boardings) which were not campus stops (FSU, FAMU, and
TCC--
don't recall the order). So, 1) this jives with the 76% of
riders being
students figure, and 2) makes it all the more ridiculous that
they are
refusing to go into the malls! The manager at Gov. Square said
he is
totally in favor of the buses continuing to come into "his"
mall...
StarMetro is going to try to make the mall put up any money
that would
be needed for "improvements" to make the parking lot traverse
safe.

Here is a message Sila sent to me. Not sure where she got the
info
though.
I find it interesting that Star metro has such stats available.
I
guess
they get them from the fair boxes and sales of bus passes but if
the
disabled fair and seniors pay the same, how do they determine
between
the
two. That said not counting the regular riders approximately
14.3
percent
of riders could be disenfranchised and most certainly some of
the other
riders.

89 thousand seniors
53 thousand disabled
out of the 4.2 million
3 quarters of those were covered under university contracts
Thus out of the approximate 1 million left,
5.3 percent disabled
9 percent seniors
so, disabled not such a small percentage after all
