FYI ----- Original Message ----- From: City of Tallahassee To: evans-lynn@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, January 05, 2010 12:59 PM Subject: City of Tallahassee News Release - Citizen Advisory Council to review StarMetro's decentralization plan Citizen Advisory Council to review StarMetro's decentralization plan The Transit Advisory Committee (TAC) will vote on the approval of StarMetro's decentralization plan, Nova2010, on Thursday, Jan. 21, at the regularly scheduled meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at StarMetro's offices, located at 555 Appleyard Drive. This Mayor-appointed, citizen based council acts in an advisory capacity to the City Commission and StarMetro in transit planning projects. The outcome of this vote will help steer both the City Commission and StarMetro is pursuing a decentralized route structure. The public may attend this TAC meeting and submit questions in writing via index cards, which will be provided, prior to the meeting. Prior to the January 21 meeting, a TAC working group will meet on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the StarMetro offices to review data, research and analysis surrounding the Nova2010 route decentralization project. This working group, which consists of 12 citizens of varying backgrounds and opinions, will make a recommendation on the decentralization project to the Transit Advisory Committee at the January 21 meeting. The public may also attend this working group meeting but only in a bystander capacity; the public may not submit questions to the working group. "We [members of the Transit Advisory Committee] believe that a working committee appointed by the TAC could help in identifying issues and mitigation strategies that would both meet the transit improvement objectives of Nova2010 while allying concerns associated with its implementation," said Dr. Gregory L. Thompson, Chairman of the Transit Advisory Committee. The goal of the working group is to provide the Transit Advisory Committee with additional citizen input to help determine the committee's stance on Nova2010. The committee's final vote will then help guide StarMetro in developing a draft report and map to the City Commission. StarMetro intends to present the City Commission with a proposal of the Nova2010 decentralization plan in Spring 2010.
