State to Honor Businesses
APD News Release / Capital Soup, Oct. 11, 2012

TALLAHASSEE, FLâThe state of Florida will recognize seven businesses for
being leaders in employing people with disabilities on Thursday, October
18.  The annual celebration will be held at Tallahassee City Hall,
Commission Chambers, located at 300 South Adams Street. October is
Disability Employment Awareness Month, and the state is highlighting the
contributions of people with disabilities to the workforce.

The public is invited to view disability-related displays beginning at 8:30
a.m. The employer awards program will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sponsors include
the Able Trust and City of Tallahassee.

The winning companies are from Daytona Beach, Islamorada, Miami, Pensacola,
Pasco County, St. Petersburg, and Orlando.

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), Blind Services, and
Vocational Rehabilitation are honoring the Florida businesses for their
commitment to hiring people with disabilities. The businesses will receive
the Florida Exceptional Employer Award.

APD supports people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, and
work in their communities.  The agency annually serves more than 50,000
Floridians with autism, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intellectual
disabilities, Down syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome. For more
