The following are some pointers to help you prepare for Test #2:

1. Know what OLE is. What is the differences between embedding and linking?
Are there any advantages to using embedded rather than linked objects, or
vice versa?

2. What is the archive attribute/bit? And how is it used by backup
utilities? What are the differences between normal, differential and
incremental backups?

3. What is a backup set? How is it different from a backup cycle?

4. What is the full path or MS-DOS path?

5. What is the Check Disk utility? How does function with different file
systems? What are lost clusters? What are cross-linked files?

6. How do browsers use a cache? What is a cookie? What is an ActiveX control
and how is it different from a Java applet?

7. Know what shortcuts are and the different types used in Windows 2000.
What are the switches that can be used in Explorer shortcuts? And how do
they work?

8. What is the Disk Cleanup Wizard? What does it do?

9. What is file fragmentation? What causes it?

10. How is a metafile different from a bitmapped file?

11. Know the differences between the mail protocols like IMAP, POP3 etc.

12. What is DNS? How does it work?

13. Know what the basic protocols used for Internet communication are, e.g.
IP, PPP, etc.

If you can answer these question and are comfortable with the topics above
based on the material covered in class and in the textbook you should be
prepared for the test.
