Here are some questions and tips to help you prepare for Test #1.

1. Know the major devices or components in the computer.
2. Know how to prepare a new hard disk for use and any commands that must be
used in the process. You MUST know the correct syntax of any command.
3. What is the chip set?
4. What is the role of RAM? How does the CPU use RAM?
5. What is the CMOS chip?
6. What is virtual memory?
7. What are peripheral devices?
8. What are the 2 types of chips used in a computer?
9. What is the bus?
10. How is secondary storage used?
11. What is ROM shadowing?
12. Know the difference between a software interrupt and a hardware
13. What are the different types of expansion slots you may find in a PC?
14. What is a cold, soft, warm and hard boot?
15. Know the different system resources and how they are used.
16. Know the boot process and the files actively used in the process for DOS
and Windows.
17. What is cache memory?
18. Know the layers of software as described in the textbook.

If are comfortable with these topics and can answer these questions
thoroughly, you should have no difficulty passing the 1st test.
