----- Forwarded Message ----- Sunflower Genealogy Society Meeting Minutes November 20, 2012 The meeting was brought to order by Director Maxine Ludeke at 2:00pm. Members and visitors were welcomed; 22 were present. Treasurer Walt Peek gave the Treasurer’s report: the treasury stands at $497.06 with no deposits or expenses recorded since the report at the October meeting. Membership remains at 67. Membership renewals will be accepted at the December meeting. The minutes from the October meeting had been distributed to the membership via email. Maxine asked if any corrections or additions needed to be made to the minutes. No corrections or additions were offered; Gene Robles made a motion to accept the minutes and Val Goldner seconded the motion. The motion passed. Librarian Pat Brownson reported on several books that are in the Sunflower Genealogy Society Library; he encouraged all members to use the library to aid in their research. Marilyn DeCambaliza was the lucky winner of the library drawing; she received a book entitled OUR FAMILY TREE. Walt Peek discussed revisions in the Sunflower Genealogy Society’s By-Laws. The changes are: (1) the Members-at-Large will become elected positions; (2) the Nominating Committee Chairperson will be an appointed position; (3) the Mentor Chairperson will set annual goals for the team; (4) the Librarian/Historian will be an elected position; and (5) the duties of the Committee Chairpersons were specified. Pat Brownson suggested that in Article 4 - #3, the wording be changed to AT LEAST 2/3 of the Executive Board membership (relating to recommendations of the Planning Committee). Discussion regarding this possible change followed, and agreement was reached to change the wording. A motion was made by Al Seames and seconded by June Gibble to accept the revisions put forth by Walt Peek, including the change suggested by Pat Brownson. The motion was passed unanimously. The revised by-laws will be posted on the website and also emailed to members. The slate of officers for 2013 was presented by Marilyn DeCambaliza, Nominating Committee Chairperson; other members of the Nominating Committee were Mary Dietz and Val Goldner. The proposed officers are: Mike Foreman, Director; Maxine Ludeke, Assistant Director; Mary Dietz, Secretary; Walt Peek, Treasurer; Pat Brownson, Librarian; Marilyn DeCambaliza, Member-at-Large. A volunteer was sought for the remaining Member-at-Large position; June Gibble volunteered for the position. No nominations were offered from the floor. Buzz Brooks made a motion that the slate of officers be accepted, and Pete Monahan seconded the motion. The membership present approved the slate of officers and elected them unanimously. Maxine reported that a Webmaster is needed for our organization; this position would require a time commitment of about two hours per month. Contact Maxine or Buzz to get more information about this position. Maxine also reminded members to use www.FamilySearch.org in our genealogy research. The Society mentors will be happy to guide members through the site. Two other sites that are recommended are: http://www.americanancestors.org and http://www.worldvitalrecords.com . New Business: Members were asked to bring Christmas goodies to our December meeting as we will include a social time with delicious treats. The Society will provide plates, cups, napkins, and refreshments. At present, the Society is looking into options for a legal club subscription to a paid genealogy website. Walt Peek will Chair the Planning Committee for 2013. Those who volunteered for this committee include Buzz Brooks, Al Seames, Pete Monahan, June Gibble, Val Goldner, and Marilyn DeCambaliza. Officers are included in the committee. Walt will notify the committee members of the time and place of the planning meetings. Following the business meeting, a very interesting presentation, “Tracing Your Irish Roots,” was given by Peter Monahan. The meeting was adjourned at 3:52 pm. Respectfully submitted, Marilyn DeCambaliza, Acting Secretary
