Highlights of recent developments on the DoubleSShot project
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Rick Maschek reports that on Saturday April 5th, the 4-grain DD-slot
motor was successfully test fired for a second time at the FAR test
site in the Mojave Desert. Complete details, photos and video will be
made available in the coming days.

- José Jimenez has kindly offered to machine the VIC-3 Midbulkhead and
CSD (Chamber Separation Disc) Retention Ring, as well as the Forward
Bulkhead. José reports that he has begun machining the nozzle
extension for this motor.

-Richard has nearly completed the machining of two CSDs. One is
intended for use in the dual-burn VIC-3 static test motor. The other
will be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test to ascertain the
structural integrity of the disc when loaded under pressure.

-Craig Peterson has kindly agreed to fabricate the pyrogen holder
fittings for the DSS TM-4 rocket motor. This fitting, which screws
into the Forward Bulkhead, hold an Estes A3-5 motor. A pair of such
motors are utilized to simultaneously ignite the two sides of the
DD-slot propellant grain.

- Florin Mingireanu, a Romanian rocketeer, has kindly agreed to
design, build and supply a "launch controller" which will be used to
fire the two igniters of the upcoming VIC-3 "dual-burn" static test
motor. The controller will feature a timer which fires the second
igniter after a predetermined time delay following first igniter
firing.

-Tom Dittman, who has helped out in the past with data acquisition of
static tests, has arranged for donation of a DATAQ DI-149 unit. Our
thanks and appreciation goes out to both Tom and Roger Lockhart of
DATAQ Instruments, Inc. A while back, Tom and Roger had arranged a
donation of an advanced DI-710 data logger for DSS motor testing.

-Vicente Alvero has begun construction of a test stand for the
upcoming VIC-2 and VIC-3 static motor tests. The test stand design is
based on the STS-5000 tripod design and is similar to that used for
the early BEM static tests, but not as large.
