Highlights of recent developments on the DoubleSShot project
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Randy Dormans has kindly agreed to fabricate a replacement motor
casing for the one that suffered a burn-through during the test firing
of the K-motor with 4 DD slot grains. Randy will also fabricate a
second casing to hold six propellant grains.

-A regular avionics telecon was held this past Sunday. Participants
were Chris King, Hans Olaf Toft, Mattias Lampe, and Richard Nakka.
Hans reported that he’d determined that a new compiler can be used to
compile modified code for the Telemetrum flight computer. This was an
important development, as the current compiler was unable to compile
revised code due to code size limitations. Richard reported that
testing of the prototype de-spin system has wrapped up with good
results. Mattias may take on the challenge of developing a controller
for the flight version of the de-spin system. The next telecon will be
held on Feb. 2nd.

- Vicente Alvero has performed further testing of the prototype Pyro
Separation Device (PSD), this time with successful operation of the
device which resulted in clean separation of the spring-loaded
simulated coupler and airframe. A stiffer spring has been ordered and
will be used to do final verification testing of the prototype under
greater preload.

- Richard has completed the machining of the graphite “nosecap” that
will be used for Ablative Experimentation No.3 (aerodynamic heating of
nose cone). The nosecap will be sent to Vicente Alvero, who will
perform the testing in the near future.

-Ed Brown, an SS2S Bronze Donor, has kindly offered to donate a
two-channel “TC Logger USB” data acquisition unit (www.TCLogger.com).
This simple to use unit should well suit our needs for collection of
motor thrust and chamber pressure. On behalf of the SS2S team, thanks
so much, Ed.

-Alex Canela (http://www.rctotal.com/), who has performed volunteer
machining services for SS2S recently, has kindly volunteered to
compose the webpage for the upcoming Tool Raffle fund-raising drive.
This raffle will have four prize lots of miscellaneous European-made
hand tools (all brand-new and donated by EGAMaster).

-As previously reported, SKF Spain (http://www.skf.com/es/index.html )
has donated a set of “lip ring” seals valued at approximately 850 € .
These are required for the propellant melting system under development
by Pol Clauwaert in Belgium, under direction of Antoon Vyverman. This
donation was arranged by Vicente Alvero, who had recently received the
seals and has sent them to Pol. Well done, once again, Vicente.
