Hi All

Thanks for this, James.  Perhaps it's time for a formal request, and to
come officially from more than one unit, department and College, so that we
can by-pass a common response of "You're the only person asking for this."
(And, if it's against policy, then it simply requires a change in the
policy).

I really think it's long past the time that SQU moves away from behaving as
if online learning is something that happens only inside an
institutionally-based LMS.  At least allow the choice.  And this might be a
good starting point.

Do others think this is something worth pursuing?

Regards

Ken

Hi Ken,
Yes, the issue is CIS and the signup. We investigated this some time ago.
As it is against SQUs ICT policy regarding privacy and security, I
understand they will not do it.
We did not make a formal request though, just informal channels.

Hi

Does anyone on the list know of, or use, Google Classroom?  It's a
Google-Based LMS.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Classroom
https://classroom.google.com/

I want to experiment with it, but, in order to create a class, the
institution must have signed up for the G-Suite for Education
https://edu.google.com/intl/en-US/products/productivity-tools/#how-to
and I'm not sure if SQU has done so.

(And, yes, I am concerned about students' privacy, but, let's face it,
with all the cookies and gmail accounts and tracking of Google searches,
etc, that horse has been out in the pasture for a long time already :-)
