Congrats on advancing, Gordon, and good luck the rest of the way! Despite
the outcome, it was a fun series.

Q1 went back and forth as the teams felt out new looks: WIL getting
bigger at SF to try to handle Siakam while GRG let the bench play early and
often. 8 ties in Q1 and the biggest lead was a mere 3 points as Q1 ended
with WIL up 26-23. Hayward had 9 and Sabonis 8 in the quarter. Randle
countered with 9.
GRG came to run and Q2 started with 3 straight fastbreak baskets to take
the lead. Hartenstein and Holmes countered with 6 of their own to
re-establish the WIL 3 point lead. Then GRG struck Green again putting
together a 17-3 run behind 9 points by Green and 3 more fastbreak baskets
to grab a 48-36 lead. A pair of Sabonis 3’s cut into the lead and at
halftime it was 55-46.
WIL started strong in Q3 with Hayward scoring 6 points in 5 minutes and
the lead was cut to 2. Randle said “enough” and scored 3 on an “and one”
then hit Campazzo with a Dazzler then was fouled and made a pair of FT then
ended Q3 with 2 more FT and a 3 in the last minute. End of Q3 GRG was up
14 at 83-69. Randle had 10 in the quarter. WIL was missing 3’s with
regularity only mustering 20 points in Q2 and 23 in Q3.
WIL shooting did not get any better in Q4 as they only managed 22. A 12
point run late in Q4 salted the game and the final score was a 118-91 GRG
victory as they move on to the Conference Finals.
3’s were not falling today as WIL was 8-33 (24%) from deep and GRG 3-13
(23%). Refs were a huge factor as WIL was called for 35 fouls – GRG only
12 resulting in GRG going 37-44 from the line while WIL was only 11-16 – a
26 point FT differential in a 27 point victory.
Hayward led the WIL cause with 19 points and 8 assists. Sabonis had 16
points and 8 boards. Poole and Tucker combined for 2-15 from deep and
Holmes had another rough game fouling out after shooting just 2-10. Siakam
led GRG with 26 points on 9-13 shooting and 8-9 from the line as well as
grabbing 6 boards and dishing out 5 assists. Randle kept pace with 24
points, 7 boards and 6 assists. Clarkson found his rhythm scoring 17 on
5-5 from inside the 3-pt line (0-2 from deep) and 7-7 from the line while
also helping out the bigs with 6 boards as he spent his 27 minutes at SF
today. JaMychal Green had another excellent game scoring 13 on 5-7
shooting and pulling down 8 boards in 14 minutes of play. Holiday chipped
in with 12. Hernangomez added 8 points and 9 boards (4 offensive) in his
16 minutes.
Congrats to the Wilimington team for making it to the Conference
Semi-Finals and on a fine late season surge to their season. It was a fun
series. Fast too. Hope I don’t have to wait 2 weeks to play again!
