Smart rolled a D-2 on an outside shot for an X 1-19 but a 20 came up!!
Lake K responded with an 8-0 run to make it 14-6. Midway through the
quarter it was 19-11 Lake K. It reached a double digit lead at 25-15.
Both teams struggled to score in the last three minutes leaving Lake K with
a 28-19 lead after 12 minutes even with Thompson going 0 for 6 from
downtown. But MIN shot a woeful 5 for 22 from the field and 2 for 11 from
three. Lake K was 13 for 26 from the field and 1 for 7 from three. Both
teams had only two turnovers. Harrell and Gobert each scored six for Lake
K while Walker led MIN with 5.
In the second quarter, the offensive struggles continued with neither team
scoring for the first two minutes until Gobert got a hoop and some harm on
a switch. Lake K scored the first seven of the quarter (and 10 in a
row overall) for a 35-19 lead. It became a 15-2 run and 40-21 lead. The
lead reached twenty for the first time at 45-25. MIN got within 16 at
50-34 but Lake K ended the half on a 10-0 run and 60-34 lead, the biggest
so far. Even with no Curry or Griffin, and Thompson going 0 for 7 from
three, Lake K still is running on all cylinders. Harrell led the way with
21 points while Gobert already has a double-double with 14 points and 12
rebounds. Lake K shot 55% from the field with only 2 for 10 from distance
and just 4 turnovers. MIN could have shot better blindfolded than the 24%
in the first half including 3 for 23 horrible shooting from downtown. MIN
also had twice as many turnovers with 8. Only Walker scored in double
figures with 10.
In the third quarter, the lead got as high as 29 at 78-49 but then MIN
reeled off ten straight and heading to the 4th trailed by 19 at 80-61. MIN
was "up" to 33% FG shooting even while going 1 for 10 from three in the
quarter to make it 4 for 33 for the game (12%!!). Walker was still leading
MIN with 12 points but was 0 for 8 from distance. The only other double
digit scorer for MIN was Sexton with 10 in 15 minutes. Lake K was shooting
47% including 4 for 20 from three with Thompson now 1 for 11 behind the
arc. Harrell still had a game high in points with 23 now. Gobert still
had a game high 12 rebounds. And Ingles had a game high 11 assists.
In the fourth quarter, Layman hit a three and was now 3 for 5 from downtown
while the rest of the team was 2 for 30!! MIN made a couple of charges
down the stretch but never got it back to a single digit lead. Lake K
holds them off to win 108-93. MIN shot only 36% from the field for the
game and was 11 for 45 from three. Five players scored in double figures
led by Walker's 20. Hield came on late to end with 17. Lake J only shot
46% FG's and shot an even worse percentage from downtown at 6 for 26.
Harrell scored a game high 29 points. Gobert missed seven FT's but still
had a monster game with 24 points, a game high 19 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Smart put up a surprising 19 points. Thompson continues to be either
awesome or horrible each game and struggled to reach 10 points including 1
for 12 from three.
