Trailing with 3:31 to play, the Gold ran off a dozen straight points to lift
the home team to a 119-110 victory over the rival from up HWY 131. Trailing
27-25 with seconds to play in the first after a Jae Crowder 3-pt shot, Randle
got to the line, made the first but Campazzo snuck in to grab the rebound on
the second and put it back in to give GRG a 28-27 lead after Q1. A little run
to start the 2nd put the Gold up 41-32. Trailing 45-37, ROC scored 9 straight
to take the lead - 5 in a row by Wiggins. The lead would change hands multiple
times before the 2nd ended with ROC up 53-52.
ROC would grow the lead to 7 at 65-58 before GRG reeled off 9 straight to take
the lead on 5 straight points by Kenrich Williams. After Wiggins and Lowry
traded baskets, ROC responded with a 9-0 run of their own on 3 pts each by
Curry, Wade and Robinson to restore the 7 point lead 76-69. GRG scored 7
straight to tie it before an Ibaka 3 pointer put ROC back ahead. A Cameron
Johnson three with 0:28 to play restored the ROC 7 point lead yet again 87-80
before a pair of Moses Brown free throws ended Q3 87-82. A Vucevic outside
shot with 7:29 to play yet again restored a ROC 7 point cushion 99-92. The
Gold slowly chipped away at the lead until a Lowry 3 pointer finally put GRG up
again 103-101. The lead only lasted seconds before a long Curry trey and 2
Dean Wade free throws put ROC up by 3 with 3:44 to go before the final run of
the night - a 12 point run featuring 8 Siakam points pushed the Gold on to
victory.
Kyle Lowry was the star of the game finishing with 25 points on 10-15 shooting
and 7 assists. Randle added 24, Siakam 20, Clarkson 16 and Moses Brown 15.
GRG shot 63% from the floor and 89% from the line but were hampered by 18
turnovers. ROC was led by Curry with 23 points, Vucevic with 17, Wiggins 16,
Crowder 12 and Wade 10. GRG more than doubled up ROC on rebounds winning the
boards 46-21.
