I have it on good authority that neither did, in actuality, go away but because 
of a deep division within the tobacco and proctology communities, the 
requirement surfaced to divide this resource into two sectors:  (1) Tobacco 
Smoke and (2) Enema Kit.  To your point concerning medical marijuana, you are 
more than correct sir.  “Weed” is used in application of both sectors, i.e., 
you can’t blow smoke without it and no enema should ever be administrated until 
you’ve smoked a lot of it…

great history buff and self-styled philosopher.  Even though he attempted to 
post of picture of this, apparently it didn’t take.  Maybe that’s for the 
better.  Regardless, here we have yet another revelation of historical

Do you know what it is?

Tobacco Smoke Enema Kit (1750s ~ 1810s).
The tobacco enema was used to infuse tobacco smoke into a patient's rectum for 
various medical purposes, but primarily the resuscitation of drowning victims.
A rectal tube inserted into the anus was connected to a fumigator and bellows 
that forced the smoke into the rectum. The warmth of the smoke was thought to 
promote respiration.
Doubts about the credibility of tobacco enemas led to the popular phrase 
"blowing smoke up your ass."
As you are most likely aware, this odd tool is still heavily used by all levels 
of government.
