Thanks, SOGAGGers. There was indeed some commotion in Coronado this
weekend about the fact that I am embarked upon a new decade. I'm comforted
by the guidance that Ace has often offered: "You work until you're 70.
After that, it's optional." I appreciate having reached the point where I
have his permission to exercise that option.
The joy exhibited by the citizens of Coronado in celebrating my birthday
seems rooted in their knowledge that I'm an ex-politician with no further
ambitions. That reminds me: I think I'll go play golf.

That small mushroom cloud you see wafting through the breeze and coming
from the direction of the Pacific is not really a mushroom cloud nor is it
coming off the Pacific. It’s emanating from Coronado and is a combination
of fireworks, BBQ smoke and celebratory cannon fire, all in recognition of
the parade down Orange Street to commemorate Woods’ birthday on Sunday.
Other than that, a quiet day is planned.
Well, there is papal blessing of his SOGAGG shirt and the military
fly-over but all of this tends to pale alongside the knowledge of his
neighbors that they best give him his due when tomorrow’s dawn occurs or he
will again run for city council and vote them off the island…
