Chi Chi/Rules,
An update on today’s NDIA luncheon:
1. Divot, Matt Regan, Alex Smith and myself were positioned at the head
table.
2. Divot was his usual urbane self in providing a heartfelt set of
tournament background comments which he smoothly followed with a transition
to Matt Regan’s introduction.
3. Matt provided brief remarks (all on-point) and then introduced Alex
Smith, who is a recipient of Folds of Honor educational support.
4. Alex created complete quietude in the large audience with her story
of both herself (as a child) and her mother being heavily abused by her
father before he left them with nothing, followed by her mother’s marriage to
a military man several years later and regaining a good family life. What
followed was her step-father deploying to Iraq and returning with PTSD and
becoming totally disassociated with the family, which caused the sad story to
begin all over again. Both Alex and her mother have since been diagnosed
with PTSD from issues caused by both her birth father and her step-father.
Folds of Honor stepped up and paid for her first two years in college at Cal
State San Marcos and she’s hoping for a third and she’s on her way to a
better life. Great story and received with appreciation by the attendees.
5. Matt then regained the podium and thanked everyone and projected the
wish that they all support the PGD – FoH golf tourney.
6. Lots of applause for both Matt and certainly Alex.
7. We had a good day – lots of visibility here. Hope it manifests
itself into sponsorships and players.
8. Again, kudos to Chi Chi and Divot for all the work you guys put in
to make this just right…
Best,
/Ace
