HI Kim

Do it and you will be hooked. It is a totally fascinating process and soon
you will be standing over your soap saying "Gel, damn you!"

I just cut of a hunk of silk and dissolve it in the lye water.

Pics of my soap at www.wild-hybrid.co.nz

I just sent a box of 17 soaps to the US. $45.00 postage on economy rates!

Where does everyone live? It would be useful for the more experienced
soapers to get together with the newbies or relative newbies to walk them
through the process.

I have a question for the experienced soapers. Do you still use
thermometers?

Gina - how about setting up a Soap Craft blog or facebook page to make it
easier for us to share pics and links?

Hi -

I am another newbie and lurker.I have really been enjoying the emails that
have been flying around.I haven't made soap yet, have gathered lots of
stuff, including ingredients and information.just haven't made the plunge!
That is not unusual, I tend to put things off and get over educated on them
before I try, and then find out it was easier than I thought!

I also have the same questions as Heather, and want to ask about the silk
that Ross mentioned yesterday and Gina also adds - I looked on Trade Me and
saw the silk, do you actually add the strands of silk?

I love the feedback from the soap swap, and hope in the future I will get
good enough to do some too.and would love to see some pictures of the soaps
and storage - the boxes that you make Ross sound really interesting.

Have a great day everyone, and I will continue to live vicariously as a soap
maker through you all..!!

Kim

Hi Everyone

Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Heather and I just signed
up to this forum a couple of weeks ago and have been soap making for one
week!! Yay! I'm totally addicted and have made several batches already (only
enough for about 12 muffin size soaps each lol)

It appears I have just missed out on a great soap swap! Disappointing to say
the least! Not that I have any soap to swap or anything, but I'm like....O
man....why didn't I start this a couple of months earlier lol..but I'm
thoroughly enjoying all the ideas coming through.

I need all the help I can get and so any suggestions you can head my way
would be accepted gratefully.

Just a couple of questions.

I decided to buy a silicone muffin tray just to try this soap making out
before trying anything to jazzy (haha)

But I'm really annoyed with it. My soap has been coming out the colour of
the tray. The longer I leave it in the darker it gets. Does anyone know if
this is likely to continue or is it just because it is new. It has really
put me off using silicone . but everyone else loves it (I guess that is
because it pops out good)

I love the layered look in soap. Tell me does the second layer have to go
onto the first while the first is still soft? Don't think I'm fast enough to
do it that quickly yet lol. Would be great if I can just make another batch
in my own time and add to the first later (Is that possible?)

As far as using downpipe goes......well I had a go....what a joke! I taped
up one end with greaseproof and filled it. Soap just came pouring out the
bottom and went all over the place. Obviously that is a fine art! Any ideas
on sealing the end would help!

Last but not least......any help for finding suppliers for ingredients would
help tons!

Well another weekend is upon us. Hope you all have a great one with family &
friends.
