Not at all! We wanted a no cost solution that would be secure, private and be easy for people to use. Having photos on Facebook hasn't suited everyone and of course there have been other issues with the old list - like messages getting lost and messages bouncing etc.
Google offers this service free with 100Mb of space for pictures. I guess they like expanding their advertising empire - so maybe the cost is seeing adverts on the website. If you just get the list emailed you won't have to read any advertising.
As far as being trustworthy, I have been a Google customer for a few years now - in my job as a webmaster - and they have not let me down. They have driven me nuts sometimes, but as far as privacy is concerned if they say you are private then you are - unlike Facebook.

Hi Marion
It won't accept a hotmail email account? You can sign up using a gmail email and then add your regular email to the account. You can then choose to use your regular email in the Group settings. I have written up instructions about that as I can see it may be an issue for some people. If you like you can give me a call on 09 832 5528 and I can help talk you through it.

I will start to move the current conversations over to the new group at around 10am this morning. There are still some people who haven't signed up to our Google Group - but some of those emails are are address where you have chosen to use a different email for the new group - which is fine.
Once you start seeing the threads in the new group reply to them and not the thread that is in freelists. I can't just cut it off dead - so there is bound to be some confusion, just bear with us and be patient. :-)
