You are correct! I'm a tecky type of person. I do system level computer
programming as an job.
I like phones with physical buttons over just straight touch screen phones.
I've always been that away from back in the early
2000's. I find some things faster to do with buttons. As an example! With an
touch screen phone, it takes me 5 to 8 seconds to type
in an 4 digit then following it with the enter to unlock a touch screen phone.
With the Kapsys phone, I can do that within 2
seconds. Another example! Being I use the phone program mostly! Just dialling a
number manually all 10 digits in the USA followed by
CALL would take me a good 15 to 20 seconds. On the Kapsys it takes less than 5
seconds and that is including the initial press of
the CALL button to bring up the phone dialler.
Yes I've sent my review onto Kapsys already. Thanks for suggesting that anyway.
I've also installed other programs on the Kapsys to make it more user friendly
for me.
Example:
Macrodroid to be able to create automation to do different things for me.
Like announce the battery percent when an Bluetooth headset is connected and
the battery goes below 20% and to keep on announcing
each percent as it keeps on going down to 1%.
Announce when a new text message comes in when I'm on a call.
Announce when the battery is FULL when it is being charged.
Change the volume level when a call is made on a Bluetooth headset over when it
is made just from the handset.
When I hang up a call change the volume to something different if a Bluetooth
headset is connected or not.
When I plug in a headphone again change the volume to what I like to use for
that.
I have Amazon Alexa installed to be able to do different things with the Echo
devices.
I have ScriptTalk installed to be able to read medications using the NFC
functionality of the phone.
I have NETATMO installed to be able to connect to my own personal weather
station.
Just some of the things I've done with this phone. Granted I've also have the
same installed on my full touch screen Motorola Moto
G4+.

I hope you are going to send your findings to Kapsys.
I don't know how much of this stuff is easy to either fix or implement but well
done.
I am curious to see why you would want a Kapsys phone considering you are such
a tech. person.
Thought phone was just for people like me who are too lazy to truly get
involved with touch screens.

My review of the SmartVision2 from KAPSYS. I will first give the phone specs
along with some comments. Then I'll get into what I
like and dislike about some of the tings with the SmartVision2. I've been using
this phone about 5 to 6 weeks.
The size of the phone is about the standard size of Smart phones for 2016 and
later.
Size: 152 x 66 x10mm
Weight: 150g
The rest of the hardware and stuff was good for the time the phone was produced
but in my own thoughts if slow in today's
September/October 2018 world. It would be an entry level phone now days. The
price should reflect that but doesn't. But again it is
made for the blind and people with sight issues and people who don't want a
touch screen or find a touch screen slow to use.
Touchscreen: 4" LCD IPS
Processor Type: Quad Core 64-Bit @ 1.3 GHz
Internal memory: RAM 2GB, Flash 16GB
Android 6.0.
The manuals says the following but I see no reason it wouldn't support 256GB
cards. However be aware the larger the card the slower
the startup of the phone.
From the manual: External memory: up to 64GB
Cellular connectivity:
4G LTE
3G+/ 3G
2G In the USA isn't used anymore.
Wireless connectivity:
Bluetooth 4.0 BLE
WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n 5GHz.
To me, doesn't look like it takes advantage of the N speed. It is slow at
downloading. Also doesn't support 2.4GHz band.
Satellite receiver: GPS, Glonass with A-GPS support
Other sensors: accelerometer, proximity and light sensors, digital compass
SIM card format: 4FF Nano SIM.
Connectors: Audio jack 3.5 mm, USB type C USB High speed 2.0.
Battery: 2700mAh Li-ion
Standby time: 350h
Talk time: 12h More than likely you will get less. Probably between 8 to 10
hours.
CAMERA
Resolution: 2 Mpixel front/ 8 Mpixel rear
Video: HD 720p @ 30 fps
Digital Zoom: 4x
Flash: 2 LED
Now to things I like and dislike about the phone.
Likes as far as physical stuff.
The battery is user replaceable.
It has physical buttons.
You can turn off the touch panel so it doesn't respond to touch.
It has an USB C connector.
It has an 3.5MM headset jack.
Stuff I don't like.
The USB C connector is only High speed 2.0 up to 480MB.
It doesn't take advantage of UHS-II speed on memory cards. However you can put
one in the phone and it doesn't harm anything.
It doesn't support On The Go (OTG) connectivity. This is used for connecting
USB drive, keyboards, and other USB things.
It has a mono speaker at 68 DB at 1 M away from the phone. Other phones have
more volume and stereo speakers.
No desktop charger for extra batteries. So you can't charge a spair battery.
Doesn't support 3.5G and the cell connection is weak. Unable to make calls on
4G.
Bluetooth seems to cut in and out. Noticed that when using the screen reader
while on a call.
Talkback may be an older 6.0 version and doesn't support Heading and links
browsing that I can tell.
To other things.
Audio profiles.
I find this is poorly done. You can add Audio profiles but can't get to them
quickly. The only way is to go into the Settings and
Sound to be able to switch to a custom profile you created. You can only switch
to the built in ones quickly by the Audio options in
quick settings or using the screen reader options to switch profile.
Backup and Restore
This is a program I found easy to use and is built into the phone. It will back
up any installed program and personal data to your
Micro SD card. As far as personal data! The check boxes will be uncheck or
unavailable if there isn't any data for what you want.
Example: If you don't have any calendar entries, you will not be able to check
this box manually and if using the check all, it will
be unchecked. It puts the information for Applications and data in the Backup
folder on your Micro SD card.
Battery meter.
I find the phone to be very bad. It will tell you that you have 1 percent of
battery and you would think if I'm on a call, I would
have about 5 to 20 minutes but this isn't the case. I've found I can talk any
ware from 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours and 10 minutes
when at one percent. I have been getting about 1 day on a charge. But again I
use the phone hard as far as making and receiving
calls.
Call time.
The phone does OK with this. I find in one day I get about 8 hours and 30
minutes to 10 hours of talk time using an Bluetooth
headset. I'm only going by what the battery information says I did for that
charge cycle. It seems to be about correct by keeping
track of how much time I spend on the phone.
Calendar is hard to use. It doesn't seem to be intuitive as far as entering an
appointment for something down the road. I managed to
do it; but it took me a good 10 minutes to do it on the phone. I had trouble
entering an date lets say for 1 and more months like in
October November timeframe. I found the Moto G4+ much easier to use.
I still haven't been able to see a date 1 or more months later to see what is
coming up.
Contacts.
I was able to import everything from the VCF files that I created from my Nokia
N95-3 phone.
Something to note hear! I have about 30 entries that use the Wait am Pause
items for numbers for bridges and other phone number type
of stuff. The SmartVision2 doesn't support the W an P options in phone numbers.
So you will need to convert them to an comma for
Pauses (P) and Semi colon for the Wait (W).
I like the fact you can import the contacts to Phone, Account etc.
I did find that you cannot expand the name field when entering a new entry.
There isn't any Prefix name, First name, Middle name,
last name and suffix. The Motorola and Nokia phones have this.
I like the fact you can tell the phone what contacts to display as far as phone
contacts, Account contacts All contacts.
You can tell it how to display the contacts too.
When entering an contact manually, you can also tell the phone where to put the
new contact. Phone contact, account contact.
Color detector.
I didn't play with this much. I don't think it works as well as standalone
detectors. I tried it on a few different items and it
gave different colors using the LED on the phone at night with no lights on.
I've not tried it out in the sunlight.
Light detecting.
I found to not work as well at all It doesn't look like it detects dim light.
Another words I turned on a light in a room, left the
door open to said room. Walked down the hall away from the room with the light
on, held the phone up with the rear camera pointing
in the direction of travel. Then I started walking down the hall towards the
room. The light detector didn't start reporting
anything at all until I turned to walk into the room. I tried this with both
the percentage and sound options. The lights are LED
lights at 5,000 K color 60 wat. This was done at night.
File Manager.
I found this usable and worked well. The only thing I didn't find is a way to
manually format an SD card if you want. If you put in
an card that is formatted as XFat then it will allow you to format it. But if
you want to wipe the card for whatever reason, I
didn't find a way to format an card.
Google Now.
I did give this a try! I find for me, it works well. If you don't have an
internet connection, you can still do some stuff with it.
Things like Phone calls, Dictating messages, Notes etc.
If you want weather, time etc. Then you will need to have an internet
connection running.
When speaking, I found you do need to give about .25 or .5 of a seconds between
words for it to work well. I tried this with an
Bluetooth headset and just the handset. The quieter the area the better your
results will be.
Making and receiving calls.
I like some of the function this phone has but there is other things I don't
like.
When a call is coming in! The phone will speak the caller ID if you have this
turned on. If you need to hear the caller ID
information again! You can press one of the volume buttons to stop the ring
tone and then press the STAR button to hear it again and
again. Pressing of the STAR button works for call waiting calls as well.
You can then press the Answer call button to answer the call. This works for
the first and also works for call waiting calls.
Something I really like with this phone. If you get a call waiting call and
press the call button on the phone to answer the 2nd
call and you want to start a conference call another words join the 2nd call
with the 1st call! All you have to do is to press the
CALL button to join the calls together.
What I don't like. The phone will not let you manage a conference call as far
as being able to drop a person off the conference call
or switch them to private. Both the Moto G4+ and Nokia will let me do this. The
phone will only let you add people to a conference
only.
I also like the fact that you can setup 1 button option to dial set numbers.
You can program 2 through 9 and 0 to call a person when
you press and hold them from the HOME screen.
Note! With some Bluetooth headset! Trying to change the screen reader volume
doesn't work at all when on a call. HASH+VOLUME Up/Down
does nothing. Also holding your finger on the screen to try to change the
volume also doesn't change anything.
While on a conference call, the drop sound doesn't always play when a person
drops off the conference.
I like the fact that you can just press the CALL button when at the home screen
to get to the phone dialing screen so you can then
just dial the number and press call.
You cannot change the Call Forwarding time delay for when not answered under
the Call Forwarding option. You must use the touch
screen to even get to the call forwarding selections. The OK/Select key doesn't
work to get to this screen. Normally you can change
this from 5 to 30 seconds in 5 seconds steps. So if you want to change the
amount of time before it goes to voicemail when you don't
answer a call, you must do it from the phone dialing screen. Note the below!
The STAR and Hash is needed. For more information do an
search on the internet. In breathe replace the verbiage with your voicemail
number and seconds with the number of seconds you want.
*61*VoiceMailNumber*11*NumberOfSecondsToWait# followed by the call button.
Messages.
Again I like the program. I did find it easy to use. I wish there was an way
to switch it out of threaded view so I can see all the
messages as they came in. Currently you must select the thread you want to read
and them it will show them. In the initial thread
list, the newest one will be at the top and the oldest one at the bottom. When
you open an thread, the reverse is true. The newest
message will be at the bottom and the oldest at the top.
As far as sending messages, I didn't find a way to send an MMS message to an
Email address. Looks like you can only send messages to
other cell phones. This is true for SMS and MMS. You can only send MMS if you
have something you want to attach as far as I can
tell.
Note program.
Again I like what is done here! But it isn't fully working. You can enter notes
and save them. You can arrow up and down through the
notes and it will read the date and time the note was put in and the FULL note!
The problem comes in when you press OK/Select to open the note as far as
reading it. It will read the full note! However you cannot
arrow in any shape or form to manually read the note. You can't even use the
touch screen to read the note at that point. The only
thing it will say is
"Read the note"
Screen reader stuff.
I like the fact you can change the shortcuts for the Hash+ and START+ commands.
I have changed some of the shortcuts so that I can quickly turn on/off the
following, Bluetooth, GPS, Mobile data and Wi-Fi. I've
also added Shortcuts to turn off and on the light for the screen and the touch
panel. I've also added an shortcut to be able to get
to the shortcut screen quickly if I want to change something.
I also like the fact you can get to the local and global screen reader stuff
quickly. You can also get to the quick settings and
notification shade quickly.
I like the fact that you can Import/Export your screen reader settings. What I
don't like is you get no screen back telling you if
the Import/Export was successful or not. So if you get an error, you don't get
any message telling you that. You don't get a message
back even if it was good.
Settings and About screen.
I find some of the stuff on this screen is hard to use and or doesn't work at
all. I tried to get the IMEI number! I had an very
hard time to get this and I did it more by error. Pressing Select on IMEI does
nothing. Arrowing up and down through the other
screen is sporadic as far as what it reads. Sometimes you need to arrow down
and then back up before an item is read and after it
read an item it goes some ware else on the screen. If you need the IMEI number!
Just do an *#06# from the phone dialing screen.
