So the update to the initial message I posted about this, is that today
I turned BrailleBack off, enabled BRLTTY instead and tried again, but to
no avail, even when I was getting the device settings button and tried
several times with "forget device"! This is beyond the joke now!

Hi,
I've repeatedly tried pairing my Braille display (the HumanWare
Brailliant BI 40) with the phone, but it's now giving me the alert
"couldn't pair Brailliant BI 40 001223) or something to that effect, and
it's showing "pairing disabled", and I don't even have the "device
settings" button any more. Even in the past this process was, to my
mind, fiddly, as I was frequently (on previous advice from other
listers) going into "device settings" and selecting "forget device". Now
that's not even there any way. If I'm supposed to rename the device,
even when I use the menu key and get that that option, it'ss only
offering to rename the Smartvvision2! (And yes I have tried turning the
Braille display off and back on again, and the channel is set to
bluetooth.) Help please ...
