Thanks Adrian. In fact, I was looking for something like this. But still
I'm not able to let the iMac boot with server-mode=1: when I restart
very early I get the message
via-pmu: Server Mode is disabled

Yes, exactly; but it seems there is no such a variable! But I know on MacOSX you are able to do something like this: does it depend on OpenFirmware or not?
The OF can't power-on your system, that's the job of the PMU.
Running echo server_mode=1 > /proc/pmu/options
should do the trick.

I believe that a desirable future depends on our deliberately choosing a life of action over a life of consumption, on our engendering a lifestyle which will enable us to be spontaneous, independent, yet related to each other, rather than maintaining a lifestyle which only allows to make and unmake, produce and consume. The future depends more upon our choice of institutions which support a life of action than on our developing new ideologies and technologies. I. Illich, Tools for Conviviality (1973)
