They should be listed as /dev/sd[a-z] ...

Did you try 'modprobe sbp2' ?

(Hmm.. does the installer include firewire support? I don't remember..

There is no /dev/sd*
I tried modprobe and I got this:
insmod: can't read 'sbp2': No such file or directory
Imho the installer has firewire support (at startup, it displays detecting ieee1394 devices, or sg like that).
