påpekade! - att nästa års Swecon tydligen finner det för gott att politiskt
korrekta sig... Så jag skrev följande svar, som jag återger här till allmän
båtnad och upplysning. --AE )
As soon as one refers to something PC at least some individuals go ballistic. I
aired certain criticism regarding two abstract entities, a convention and a
website, one being Politically Correct, one for failing on half a dozen points
I detailed. My complaints about the site Io9 was partly rather harsh, but if
that is interpreted as critique of any person it's in that individual's
capacity as editor.
One may wonder if a reaction to pointing to something as PC isn't because the
person in question *is* PC and feels guilty about it.
But the term PC is legitimate and useful and one should defend the right to
use it. It refers to blind faith in dogma and a fanatism that through history
has led to so much suffering.
One example: in 2005 Swedish TV showed a documentary about a 1960s - fringe
already then - Maoist group (it's here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZTL-JRVMfQ but in Swedish). At one point the
group carrying a gun took a dissenter into the woods with the intent to shot
him. His crime was - right! - not being Politically Correct. They didn't go
through with the murder, unlike about the same time in China, under Mao, where
millions were murdered or force-starved to death.
And this madman wasn't first. It began in the Soviet Union. Washington Post:
"The term 'politically correct' was coined in the late 1920s by the Soviets and
their ideological allies around the world to describe why the views of certain
of the party faithful needed correction to the party line."

) It is debated who killed the most, Mao or Stalin with show trials, Gulag
camps and planned starvation. You were Politically Correct or dead.
After the best news last century (the fall of the USSR) the political left
was stunned for a while. But they are now bouncing back, gathering strength,
fanatically campaigning for various things (like environmentalism, identity
policies, feminism, certain gender views, a massively political society, etc).
Certainly one must have the right to point it out. It's not about any
individual persons, but about general trends.
And I wonder, why isn't this a FM2 subject? Is it because it is seen as more
legitimate to COMPLAIN about using the term PC - than using it?
