Hi all, I'm new to this list and actually new to SimpleMail. I've tested Simple already a while ago but it didn't work for my and I stopped using it. Now, there was a thread about SimpleMail at amigaworld.net and decided to give it another try because I *really* *really* want to have an email client which is able to access my IMAP4 accounts. :-) I'm using AmigaOS4.1 and the appropiate AOS4-version of SimpleMail v0.33. So, after playing around with SimpleMail for a while, I've stumbling across quite a number of problems and these I want to report to help SimpleMail becoming better. Bugs: 1) The documentation is out-dated (even though it's saying it's the documentation for V0.33). There's no documentation for setting up an IMAP4-Account (only for POP3), but it's not a big problem because I know, how to do it (I just wanted to let you know). 2) IMAP4 (and maybe POP3) only works with SSL/STLS if one installs AMISSL v1 and AMISSL v2 *in addition* to OS4's pre-installed AMISSL v3. There's no hint about that in the documantation. 3) Changing options for the IMAP4 account seems to have no immediate effect (at least not for a "secure IMAP4" account setup). I first had the impression, that SSL only works with STLS enabled and SSL alone doesn't seem to work, Hence, it was not possible for me to send emails (which requires the 'secure' option for me). There was always the error message: Connection cannot be made secure (or something like that). But then, a few days (and reboots) later, it suddenly worked! ?? It was not a problem of the mail-provider. I've checked that with an linux IMAP4 client and also it worked on the same Amiga with YAM and POP3/SSL. Oh, and I've just realized that the same error (or this one: "Verbindung zum Server fehlgeschlagen" -> freely translated: "Cannot connect to the server") occurs after a while if SimpleMail checks (e.g. after every 10 minutes) for new mail. So, IMAP4 with SSL or SSL/STLS only works sometimes. It's not a problem of the email provider. At the same time it works fine with my linux machine and also with YAM and pop3/ssl. Oh and if SimpleMails starts to not be able to connect to the mail server, it never goes again (until restarting SimpleMail (and maybe rebooting?) -- have to check that more intensively) 4) SimpleMail is not very stable for me. Clicking a lot on the folder-tree caused SimpleMail to freeze (withou error message). 5) receiving new emails, updates the INBOX-message list, but the message can't be read in the message-window below! Only the header of the email is displayed, not the body (i.e. the text of the email). Double-Clicking the message opens a new window and then you can read the message correctly. Quitting SimpleMail and restarting it works, too (means, the message is displayed correctly also in the message-window below the list of new emails). Just refreshing the email "view", by clicking on a different folder and back has no effect. The message stays unvisible in the message-window. This sometimes happens also for all emails (not only for new emails). Quitting SimpleMail and restarting it, solves always the problem (but is not very convenient :-) ). So, at the moment It's not really usable for me. I hope you can fix these issues, because I *need* the IMAP4 functionality :-) Feature Requests: 1) Make it Multiuser-like! So multiple users can use SimpleMail on the same machine without the possibiliy to read the mails from each other. I think, for emails, that's important and YAM can do it. Switching the user-account setting on-the-fly without the need to restart the email-client would also be nice :-) 2) Allow different timings for checking new emalis on different email-accounts. Some accounts need to be checks every 2 minutes for new emails (because it's important to get notified immediately for important emails). And others are not that important an can be checked every 1h or so. 3) Display the folder-structure of IMAP4-Accounts really as folders withs subfolders! At the moment, SimpleMail just shows a list within the folder-tree on the upper-left window part: INBOX folder1.subfolder1 folder1.subfolder2 folder1.subfolder3 folder2.subfolder1 folder2.subfolder2 without the possibility to fold the list, such that you only can see: INBOX folder1 folder2 The problem with the list-view is, that it can be pretty long (imagine, that you have a single folder for each contact to store emails according to sender of an email). Okay, thanks for reading :-) I hope, you can improve SimpleMail. At the moment, I still have to use YAM/POP3, but I'd really, really like to use SimpleMail/IMAP4 :-) nexus -- Everybody is talking about the weather but nobody does anything about it. -- Mark Twain __________________________________________________________________________ SimpleMail mailing list - //www.freelists.org/list/simplemail-usr Listserver help.: mailto:simplemail-usr-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?Subject=HELP Unsub....: mailto:simplemail-usr-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?Subject=UNSUBSCRIBE
