Dave, Not quite. The engraving rules dialog contains two options which tell Sibelius when to justify the staves. These don't add page breaks. All that happens is that the staves will be spread out if there are enough staves to make it worth while. There would be no point if there were only two staves because you'd end up with the first staff at the top of the page and the second staff at the bottom. I think the option you mean is in the Layout > Auto layout dialog. This contains a whole pile of options for controlling when a page break will be made. See 7.3 and 7.4 in the Sibelius Reference. However somewhere there is a control to tell Sib the percentage of a filled page to allow before doing a page break, and another percentage to not allow filling, if not large enough. Thought these were in the engraving rules? It's definitely worth running it before you start trying to force the system layouts yourself. Also, remember that the pages, systems and bars option in the Ctrl+F1 menu gives you an overview of the page layout. You can use this as a guide before printing. This might help with your last 1/3 page and spread things out a bit. Also have you tried using one of the plug-ins that allow control of the systems per page? I can't remember the name of that plug-in but I've used it to control the number of systems per page. It's a score for piano rather crowded, many chords and often two voices per staff. At some places the left hand sometimes has to cross over the right. There are many long and short slurs. Most of times the long slurs are for the first voice of the right-hand staff and the short slurs for the second voice of the same staff. There are also irregular rhythms like triols and ohter irregular things. various dynamics words. End of description. Slurs going over system breaks often cut the stem of the last note of the line and also cut the stem of the first note of the next line. Magnetic layout should have moved these slurs upwards. Slurs at places with irregular thythms cross under the irregular rhythm marking; better would be to cross above them. The spacing between staves and system could be improved; it is most of times still too little. The score would be better be laid out on three full pages; actually it fills two pages and a thirt of a page. Another slur problem occurs, where the left hand crosses over the right. These slurs also should be moved upwards. In general the slurs below are handled better than the slurs above. It may be, that things could be improved by making settings in the magnetic layout options, but first I have to read about it and experiment further more with a sighted assistant.
