I think it is VERY important to specify exactly what version of
Windows 7 we are referring to here.

Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate versions (but NOT Home Versions)
have a Windows XP Mode option.

I have used this on quite a few occasions, and have been pleasantly
surprised to find that even programs which have not worked for me
under Vista, work on my Windows 7 Ultimate systems.

I would rather boldly venture to suggest that, given the overall total
cost of most of your DAWS and rigs, often running into many thousands
or Pounds, Dollars, or whatever, you should be seriously considering
the Ultimate version. The extra cost amounts to just a fraction of
that cost, and with built in backup, and BitLocker security - need I
say more.

Basically using the Home version is like building an Aston Martin, and
fitting it with a one gallon gas tank!

The following 5 items are not available in Home versions, and items 4
and 5 are only available in the Ultimate version.

1) Run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode
(separate download).

2) Connect to company networks easily and more securely with Domain
Join.

3) In addition to full-system Backup and Restore found in all
editions, you can back up to a home or business network.

4) Help protect data on your PC and portable storage devices against
loss or theft with BitLocker.

5) Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35
languages.

Oh, and did I mention that I'm a serious fan of Windows 7?

Subject: [sib-access] Sib Access under Windows 7

Hi All,

A client is about to buy a new system and needs to run Sibelius
Access. We were hesitating over whether to go for a Windows 7
system, so I asked Tim about compatibility. He said that Dan and he
were just exploring this very question but hadn't yet found what
would happen, so I promised to try it and report back to the list.

When you install Sib 5 in Windows 7, you get a warning that there are
known compatibility issues. If you go ahead and run Sibelius
anyway, it fails dismally to function. Nothing works, menus don't
come up, and it crashes out with a memory address error message.

So I think that's probably a no then.

It looks as though the client will have to go for XP, but what are
the prospects for scripts for Sibelius 6 under Windows 7?

Forgive me if this has been covered recently as I was bounced off the
list for a while.

Best,

Peter
