"A tempo" is one of the expressions which doesn't trigger an automatic change in the playback of the score. The reason is that the playback dictionary works by inserting a fixed MIDI message. For example, "Adagio" inserts a tempo change of 60 (the exact message is "~q=60"). Unfortunately, "a tempo" is not a constant because it always refers to the last tempo direction so, you'll need to add the metronome mark manually. You can add the metronome mark to the tempo text itself and hide it by putting the ~ in front of it. I.E. press Ctrl+Alt+T and when the edit field opens, type in: "A tempo~q=***". Just replace the stars with the numbers you need.
