Hello, John, Welcome to the wonderful world of signal integrity. Rise time is not always equal to 10% of clk period. For example, when people talk about "over clocking", they are talking about having the half-period and the risetime being nearly equal. In high speed boards, the risetime is commonly much less than the propagation time. This is why interconnects must be treated as transmission lines. Keep reading, because Eric does a great job of explaining transmission line effects for digital signals. Going through the archived topics I feel I am with right people to clear my queries. As suggested in the si-list archive I am going through Signal integrity simplified by Eric. Few queries raised which may be basic but need your advice on this. I studied the rise time is approx equals to 10% of clock period. Also the interconnect length contributes to the propagation time( time for signal to reach from driver to load through interconnect) of the signal. During signal switching from low to high or vice versa, do the propagation time should always less than the rise time? If so, what effect will the signal see for longer interconnect which makes propagation time greater than rise time. Thanks in advance for your help. Thanks much, John. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Shopping Find Great Deals on Holiday Gifts at Yahoo!
