The one's I've worked with had the extra advantage of having over-current
protection.
The other thing to consider is a connector with a long pin. Use it to charge
up the input caps through a resistor while a pull up/down connected to a
normal length pin holds the load or regulator chip disabled until the
connector moves in a bit farther. (I think SCSI does that for hot swap.
Maybe I've got things backwards and it uses a short pin.)
