From a personal perspective, we should note two items regarding IBIS
improvements and the SSO issue:

1) IBIS 5.0 is brand-new, as pointed out earlier. Tool and IC vendors may take
some time to create and check models using the new power delivery table
keywords added in 5.0.

2) As for IBIS 4.1/4.2 (code-based), we sometimes miss an important concept
when discussing IBIS or behavioral modeling in general: just because a *format*
supports expression of data using equations does not mean that the *algorithm*
(the actual behavioral equations) has been developed or has been proven.

For example, model developers could represent many different effects using, for
example, IBIS 4.1/4.2 with one of the -AMS languages underneath IBIS. IBIS
4.1/4.2 supports equation-based code and has been around for some years. But
this still means that someone has to develop and correlate the method for
modeling the effects using a *behavioral* representation. This is not often
easy.

Part of the appeal of table-based keywords in a format like IBIS is that the IC
vendor need only supply the data; the algorithm for processing the data is
assumed to be available in the tools that support the format, once the keyword
gets approved. If the keyword appears in the spec, someone has completed an
algorithm to model the effect behaviorally using the data in the keyword.

Finally, actual models may exist for both of the above for any particular
effect (like SSO). But that may not mean that model availability is always
disseminated widely or known to folks on this list.
