Henrik, "integrated rms jitter on a clock signal" sounds a lot like a single sideband phase noise specification. Maxim has a nice app note that describes the math (there are a few others, search for "phase noise rms"): http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_pk/3359 Most spectrum analyzers out there will do the rms conversion for you, either out of the box or with additional SW options. Here's an example: http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/5988-4348EN.pdf Regards, Marcus Mueller Agilent Technologies > -----Original Message----- > From: si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:si-list- > bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Henrik G Madsen > Sent: Wednesday, March 11, 2009 10:31 > To: si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [SI-LIST] What is 'Integrated RMS jitter' and how is it > measured > > Hi > Many specifications for communication chips like Bluetooth and others > includes some jitter requirement for the clock input > > The jitter specification could be like > Integrated rms jitter 10kHz - 10MHz (Fref& MHz) < 2 ps rms > > I have tried to search the web for a good explanation of this term and > how to measure it and looked at different equipment vendors websites, > but so far without luck.
