Hi Carson,
Post Layout simulations make sense when the Designrules couldn't be met, or
when other changes happened. In my experience, this happens for almost every
Design, thus I do spend some time on pre Layout simulation, but that’s maybe
10% of the simulation work.
If you have all necessary information right at the start of your work, your pre
Layout simulations are correct, the design rules are detailed enough that no
open questions occur, and your Models stay valid because there are no changes
in the Design, then post Layout simulation can be skipped or replaced by
measurements (risk management).

Hi Experts,
How much of your simulation work for SERDES channel designs on PCBs are
pre-layout, and how much is your work post-layout?
Do post-layout simulations add much value to your design process? If you come
up with a robust set of design rules from pre-layout simulation exploration
work, and you adhere to these design rules in layout, there should not be all
that much additional value in post-layout simulations?
