The people on the list were less than generous to you. But you did ask a
huge open-ended question.
A good way to scope out the things you need to worry about is to read the
USB standard specification. Don't read the whole thing (no one does) zoom in
on the physical layer and look at the tables first. The tables have lists of
all the compliance measurements required. The footnotes to the tables have
tons of information. The idea is that you can sort out what to be worried
about by the required compliance measurements.
Specifications are notoriously awkward to read, but the experience you'll
get grinding through it will pay off through the rest of your career, so
just keep grinding on it. You'll discover techniques for making the
measurements and hints for designing parts that work. Once you've done this,
remember to share the wealth, my friend.
