Agreed! Save the brain power - buy a 2D solver.
I have this book and its an excellent source on how
to "transform" transmission lines into computer code.

There are many Phds in the business doing exactly that
and all at your fingertips - with a good 2D solver.

Richard,
Have to agree with Mark. Closed form solutions, even advanced ones,
fall
apart when you use them in coupled line calculations. The error can
approach 30%. Might as well flip a coin. You can't design with them at
today's geometries and speeds.

Ken

Hi Richard,=3D20
I have done masses of research back to the 50s where a guy called S.
Cohn developed the first methods and equations for doing as you say.
Some people got very advanced at doing this and achieved almost 1%
error. I have that book and others have recommended it as it provides
insight into how transmission lines work and how to model them.

As I am sure 90 percent or more of people on this list will tell you, go
get a 2D field solver! Worth their weight in gold! However we have seen
variations in the results each of these can give as well for like for
like geometries.

As I see it, computer modelling code becomes inaccurate much more
quickly than field solving code ever would if in fact it ever would.

Cheers
Mark

Subject: [SI-LIST] Transmission lines: book commentary

Greetings All,
Has anyone read the book, Digital Transmission Lines - Computer
Modelling
and Analysis, by Kenneth D. Granzow? He has included several programs
done
in C to calculate capacitance and inductance of different transmission
line
configurations. I don't have too much experience in C, so has anyone
tried
these programs to see how they compare to other similar programs.

Thanks.

Richard
