[SI-LIST] Re: Serdes transmit/receive with common ground plane

Lets think about the currents and their impact on the signal voltages.
If I am driving SERDES (or any signal for that matter) do I have a low DC path
from the driving source to its destination?

Can you guarantee that that the receiver sees a low noise GND reference for the
signal?

The currents at the source, the driving TX, must in now way effect the
reference on the receiving end.

Are you changing layers, vias involved for routing concerns, or is it totally
planar?

Subject: [SI-LIST] Serdes transmit/receive with common ground plane

Hi,
I've a board with below stackup used for routing Serdes (6Gbps)
signals:
Layer1: TRANSMIT signals
Layer2: GND
Layer3: RECEIVE signals
Layer4: power
Layer5: GND
Layer6: other signals

The transmit and receive signal routing almost follow each other i.e.
for a given Serdes macro, the receive signals are routed the same way as
transmit signals with just the layers being different and minor differences
near ball connection. Can there be any concerns with such implementation
since both transmit and receive signals share common ground?

Regards,
Ambar
